Former WWE star injured at AEW X NJPW: Forbidden Door; pulled from big event
A former WWE NXT Cruiserweight Champion suffered an injury during his match at the recently concluded AEW X NJPW: Forbidden Door pay-per-view. The star has been pulled from an upcoming show, where he was slated to compete.
The former WWE star in question is Lio Rush. He was released from the Stamford-based promotion in April 2020 after a three-year run. Rush also had a brief stint in AEW in 2021. The 29-year-old returned to the Tony Khan-led promotion in May 2024 and has made numerous appearances since then.
Lio Rush was part of the TNT Title Ladder Match at the 2024 AEW X NJPW: Forbidden Door pay-per-view. The bout was filled with several high-risk spots. It was recently revealed that Rush unfortunately suffered an injury during the showdown.
The former NXT Cruiserweight Champion was set to compete against Aaron at Americanrana, hosted by Beyond Wrestling, on July 4, 2024. However, he cannot wrestle at the event due to an injury. On X/Twitter, the promotion made the following announcement:
"BREAKING: Lio Rush suffered an injury during tonight's ladder match and will no longer be able to compete against @PerfectAaron1at #Americanrana this Thursday, 4th of July at White Eagle in Worcester. We are working to find a suitable replacement."
Former WWE star Lio Rush failed to win the TNT Title
Besides suffering an injury, former WWE star Lio Rush failed to capture the TNT Championship in the Ladder Match. Dante Martin, El Phantasmo, Mark Briscoe, Jack Perry, and Konosuke Takeshita also participated in the contest. Perry ultimately climbed the ladder and secured the gold.
The victory marked Jack Perry's third title win in the company. He has held the FTW and World Tag Team championships in the past.
We at Sportskeeda Wrestling wish Lio Rush a speedy recovery and hope he returns to action soon.
