Former WWE star may have quietly turned heel for the first time in AEW, according to Sam Roberts

According to analyst Sam Roberts, a former WWE Superstar has undergone a discreet heel turn for the first time in AEW. The star in question is Mercedes Mone.

The CEO has wasted little time obtaining championship gold since her arrival in AEW earlier this year. In her very first match in the Tony Khan-led promotion, she defeated Willow Nightingale for the TBS Championship at Double or Nothing 2024. She then defeated Stephanie Vaquer at Forbidden Door 2024 to capture the NJPW Strong Women's Championship. After her victory, Mone was confronted by a returning Britt Baker after her win.

The 32-year-old star returned the favor by taking to the ring for her double championship victory celebration before Baker had concluded her first post-comeback promo on Dynamite: Beach Break. The crowd conspicuously voiced their support for The DMD and directed negative reactions to Mone, especially after seeing her be greeted by The Young Bucks, who are currently on a heel run as villainous EVPs.

Speaking on his Notsam Wrestling podcast, analyst Sam Roberts discussed the segment featuring Britt Baker and Mercedes Mone on Dynamite, arguing that the latter's actions during the confrontation between the two women appeared to be those of a heel and asserting Mone should commit to her turn to the dark side.

"I don't know if Mercedes Mone is officially a 'heel' heel, but she certainly came across like a heel, and throwing a celebration for yourself while there is a returning superstar already in the ring feels like a heel move. Man, I think that this should be when Mercedes just goes all the way. I think Mercedes as a heel is a hundred percent the way to go, especially if she's gonna do a belt collector-type gimmick." Furthermore, Roberts praised the idea of The Boss playing a heel who excels at in-ring competition, in contrast to the traditional stereotype of heels resorting to underhanded tactics for their victories.

"So this idea that you have a heel who is so full of herself, but then when she gets in the ring, she's actually that good, she's actually excellent... For Mercedes to be a heel who's actually excellent in the ring, I think that's a great character." [50:38 - 51:10]

Tommy Dreamer commented on Mercedes Mone vs Britt Baker in AEW

Wrestling veteran Tommy Dreamer recently reflected on the prospective upcoming bout between Mercedes Mone and Britt Baker.

Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Dreamer claimed that a match between Mone and Baker was potentially "the biggest money match" in AEW's women's division. The hardcore legend argued that the feud could be set up through promo battles, citing Baker's skill on the microphone, which he claimed was good enough to turn audiences against Mone.

It remains to be seen whether Mercedes Mone will accept Britt Baker's challenge to face her at AEW All In at Wembley Stadium next month.
