Former WWE Tag Team Champion makes an urgent appeal to AEW about latest firing

A former WWE Tag Team Champion has made an urgent appeal to AEW in light of a recent on-screen firing. The talent in question is Matt Sydal.

The 41-year-old star was recently seen in action on the May 15, 2024 episode of Dynamite, where he and his tag team partner Christopher Daniels took on The Young Bucks in an AEW World Tag Team Championship Eliminator Match. The EVPs managed to pick up the win after delivering a TK Driver on The Fallen Angel.

After the matchup, Matthew and Nicholas Jackson shocked fans by seemingly firing their long-time friend. The incident prompted Sydal to take to X/Twitter to request the Tony Khan-led promotion to bring Daniels back to the fold.

"Bring back @facdaniels [three eye emojis] @AEW I'm gonna need my tag partner back on the roster!" tweeted Sydal.

Sydal, competing under the ring name Evan Bourne, gained a considerable fan following through his unmatched athletic displays in WWE, where he held the WWE Tag Team Title along with Kofi Kingston. The Missouri native also performed in several other promotions like TNA, NJPW, and ROH before officially signing with AEW in 2020.

Cameron Grimes responded to AEW's Matt Sydal

Matt Sydal's tweet appealing to All Elite Wrestling to bring back his tag partner Christopher Daniels elicited a response from former WWE Superstar Cameron Grimes. The star was released by the Stamford-based promotion last month after a five-year tenure.

Grimes is no stranger to Sydal, having crossed paths with the latter in PWG and TNA. The former NXT North American Champion replied to Sydal's tweet by inquiring if he needed a new tag team partner in light of Daniels' firing.

“So what you’re saying is you need a tag partner?” he wrote.

The former IMPACT Grand Champion seemed to be open to the prospect of teaming up with Cameron Grimes in his response:

"YES," wrote Sydal.

It remains to be seen whether Grimes, who went by the ring name Trevor Lee in the indie circuit, makes an appearance in All Elite Wrestling.
