Former WWE Tag Team Champions team up for the first time in 7 years in a major promotion
Former WWE Superstars made their return to a prominent promotion and teamed up after seven years. The stars being discussed are Jeff and Matt Hardy. The Hardy Boyz wrestled in TNA together from 2011 to 2017 before returning to WWE. The duo are two-time TNA World Tag Team Champions.
The Hardy Boyz were previously signed to AEW. Despite being a fan-favorite team, the duo didn't find much success in the promotion. Due to a lack of opportunities, they decide to depart the company. While Matt Hardy left the promotion in April 2024, The Charismatic Enigma's contract came up last month.
While Matt was enjoying his run in TNA, Jeff decided to join him. The latter returned to the promotion in June after being a free agent. The two reunited as Charismatic Enigma came out to save his brother from The System.
On tonight's TNA show, The Hardys were slated to face The System's Brian Myers and Eddie Edwards for the TNA World Tag Team Championship. After more than seven years, Jeff and Matt wrestled together in the TNA ring. However, after a hard-fought battle, the veterans failed to capture the championships.
WWE veteran Matt Hardy reveals why he left AEW
Matt Hardy left the Jacksonville-based promotion in April 2024. During the end of his contract, the star wasn't featured in matches or TV segments.
While speaking on his Extreme Life with Matt Hardy podcast, the 49-year-old star revealed he wanted a more important role in the company. However, the negotiations didn't go as planned, so he left the promotion.
"I think the reason that I did not re-sign with AEW initially was because I want to play a more substantial [role] in what AEW is doing going forward, especially for me on TV. I want to be in something that is important, that is captivating, because that's what I want, especially with only a few years left to do this. We talked about some stuff and there were some deals, but it wasn't quite what I was looking for. We talked more and we're still talking, talks haven't ended or ceased," said Hardy.
It will be interesting to see if The Hardy Boyz returns to WWE as well, given the good relationship between TNA and World Wrestling Entertainment.
