Former WWE tag team gives a cryptic update regarding their AEW future
A former WWE tag team just provided a cryptic update regarding their AEW future. They debuted on Tony Khan's promotion earlier this year.
Grizzled Young Veterans were one of the most entertaining tag teams in NXT UK. However, since shifting to NXT, they seemed to get lost in the shuffle. Even after rebranding themselves and forming The Schism, alongside Joe Gacy, they struggled to reclaim their former glory and left the Stamford-based promotion when their contracts expired in September 2023.
Following their departure from WWE, Zack Gibson, and James Drake went on to compete on the independent circuit and even debuted in AEW on the April 27 edition of AEW Collision. This was their only appearance for Tony Khan's promotion.
During a recent interview with Metro, Zack Gibson discussed the possibility of them returning to AEW in the future. Gibson said they were not adamant on any set path and wanted to raise their brand value first. He felt that they had made all the correct decisions after leaving WWE, and a return to AEW could not be counted out sometime in the future. Although there did not appear to be any immediate plans for the same.
"We never burned any bridges, we can always reopen those talks if we wanted to. Similarly, if we’re enjoying ourselves more elsewhere, then we may never need to go back. We’re not set on any one particular path. We just wanted to get our stock moving in the right direction again. Since leaving WWE, we made the right decision," Gibson said. [H/T Fightful]
When asked about whether he would like to return to AEW, Gibson mentioned that they had their "fingers crossed."

Since their WWE release, the Grizzled Young Veterans have been busy competing for promotions around the world. Their last appearance was for a Rev Pro/CMLL Fantastica Mania UK show where they teamed with Luke Jacobs to defeat the team of Futuro, Mascara Dorada, and Neon.
During the same interview, Zack Gibson teased that they had some interesting things planned for the future.
"I’m not allowed to give too much away. But all I would say is just watch this space, because we got some we got some really cool stuff lined up," Gibson said. [H/T Fightful]
It will be interesting to see what the future holds for the Grizzled Young Veterans now that they are free agents.
