Former WWE World Champion’s exit from Tony Khan’s promotion “surprised” veteran: “I hate to hear that"
A WWE Hall of Famer admitted that a former world heavyweight champion's departure from AEW was surprising. The veteran also suggested what the star really needs.
The former WWE World Champion in question is Jake Hager (fka Jack Swagger). Jake recently departed from AEW, as he decided not to re-sign with the company after his contract was up. He had been with Tony Khan's promotion since 2020 until his recent departure. Hager also had a run in the Stamford-based promotion from 2008 to 2017.
During his time in the WWE, Jake Hager also had a stint as the World Heavyweight Champion back in 2010. However, Jake's AEW run was not so memorable aside from his pairing with Chris Jericho. Meanwhile, wrestling veteran, Jake "The Snake" Roberts shared his reaction regarding Hager leaving Tony Khan's promotion.
Speaking on his The Snake Pit podcast, Jake "The Snake" Roberts admitted that the news of Jake Hager departing from AEW really surprised him:
“I don’t know, man. I hate to hear that he was gone. It really, really surprised me. Really did.”
On being asked what Jake Hager is missing in his wrestling career, Jake Roberts answered:
“The right direction.” (H/T EWrestlingNews)
The WWE Hall of Famer on the former AEW star's gimmick
Former AEW star, Jake Hager (fka Jack Swagger) has mostly been portrayed as a follower of Chris Jericho either in the 'Inner Circle' or the 'Jericho Appreciation Society' factions. When asked whether a gimmick could help Hager, the WWE Hall of Famer, Jake Roberts, said the following:
“I don’t think so. I think his gimmick is who he is. [A shooter] That’s something that can be worked with.” (H/T EWrestlingNews)
Moreover, Jake Hager was last seen on AEW TV back in February this year and has competed in an independent promotion this month. Only time will tell what the future has in store for the former World Champion.
