"Game changer," "That was quick" - Fans react to reports of AEW signing former WWE name
AEW has reportedly signed a former WWE name. Fans have since voiced their opinion over this decision.
Robert Evans was a key name in the Texas Indie scene for several years. He also worked for ROH. After his success on the independent scene, Evans moved to WWE where he worked as part of the creative. He also occasionally appeared in backstage segments.
His most notable onscreen appearance came in 2018 on RAW when Ruby Riott (now Ruby Soho) cut off his time. However, he left the Stamford-based promotion after Vince McMahon yelled at him for a speech he had produced during the 2019 WWE Hall of Fame ceremony.
Following his stint at WWE, he joined TNA Wrestling where he worked as a writer and producer. After spending several years with the promotion, he was released in May 2024. It was recently reported by PWInsider that Evans is already working for AEW.
After the news broke, fans have taken social media to voice their thoughts about the former WWE name now working for Tony Khan's promotion. Check out some of the reactions below:
Tony Khan comments on Ricochet potentially signing with AEW once his WWE contract expires
Ricochet has been one of the most exciting wrestlers in the world. For years, he has captivated audiences with his high-octane offense in the ring. Hence, when he joined NXT, he immediately made a splash by becoming the NXT North American Champion.
Even after making it to the main roster, Ricochet's star power continued to rise and he eventually won the Intercontinental Championship. However, ever since he lost the title, he has struggled to win it back. After being a victim of lackluster booking for the past year, it seems like the former NXT star is fed up.
It was recently reported that Ricochet's contract is up in the summer and he has chosen not to re-sign with the Stamford-based promotion. This fuelled speculation that he could be headed to AEW. During an interview with TV Insider, Tony Khan was asked about Ricochet. To this, Tony evaded the question by opting not to comment on a WWE star:
"If it’s okay, I’d rather not get into wrestlers that still work for someone else," Tony Khan said.
Only time will tell whether Ricochet will sign with All Elite Wrestling after his current contract expires.
