"I had to call my wife and tell her, he's just kidding" - WWE veteran recalls how Ric Flair landed him in trouble

A WWE veteran recently recalled a story of how a humorous comment made by Ric Flair had landed him in trouble with his wife. The individual in question is Dean Malenko.

The Iceman is one of the most revered figures in the history of pro wrestling. He has earned the admiration of viewers through his work across a range of promotions, including ECW, WCW, and WWE. Malenko has been working in AEW since 2019, serving as a senior producer.

The 64-year-old legend recently appeared on the YouTube program Hey! (Ew) hosted by RJ City. When asked about his famous in-ring moniker, The Man of 1,000 Holds, Malenko shared an anecdote of wrestling veteran Ric Flair, who referred to him as The Man of a Thousand Positions on television. He also revealed having to call his wife to clarify that The Nature Boy's remarks were made in jest.

"I've also been the man of 1,000 positions. Ric Flair, one time, was in the ring. He put his arm around me, this is national TV, he said, 'This is my man right here. The Man of a Thousand Positions.' Right away, I had to call my wife and tell her, 'He's just kidding.' She's only seen one," Malenko said.

WWE and ECW veteran Dean Malenko dubbed as "a new man" after recent surgery

Dean Malenko has been living with Parkinson's disease for several years now. The star underwent brain surgery last year to better manage the symptoms of the illness.

Ahead of the 2024 edition of Blood and Guts in July, AEW released a video package promoting the incredibly violent bout. The package, narrated by Dean Malenko, thrilled fans of the legendary grappler.

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful later reported that people in All Elite Wrestling had noted a marked improvement in the former WWE name since his 2023 surgery and dubbed him as a 'new man.' The report also discussed Malenko's backstage popularity in the Tony Khan-led company.

“Dean Malenko narrated the main event video package. He had surgery last year to help with his Parkinson’s, and many we’ve spoken to said he was like ‘a new man.’ He’s widely adored backstage and known for his sense of humor.”

It remains to be seen how Dean Malenko continues to contribute to AEW programming.
