“I didn’t really work with Tony Khan” - ECW legend makes a surprising comment about AEW run
An ECW legend recently made a surprising comment about Tony Khan and AEW. The talent being discussed here is Sabu.
The Suicidal, Homicidal, Genocidal, Death-Defying Maniac made his debut on AEW on the May 24, 2023 edition of Dynamite. On the show, it was disclosed that he would act as the special guest enforcer for an unsanctioned match that took place between Adam Cole and Chris Jericho at Double or Nothing in 2023.
Speaking in the Casual Conversations with the Classic, the 59-year-old star revealed that despite being in AEW for Double or Nothing, he didn't work with Tony Khan. He also talked about what might have gotten Tony hooked on pro wrestling. He said:
"It was alright, it was good. I didn't really work with Tony Khan, I said hello to him, we talked for a bit, but I didn't work with him. And, Jericho, I didn't work with him very much either, just briefly went over our s**t. That was it...His [Tony Khan] dad took him to the ECW event with me and Jericho, and I guess that got him hooked I guess." (H/T WrestlingInc)
Sabu wants his retirement match in AEW
While on the Casual Conversations with the Classic podcast, Sabu also revealed his desire for a final wrestling match in the Jacksonville-based promotion. He stated that he was not in shape yet but eventually, he plans on getting inside the ring for one last bout.
"Yeah, I'm gonna have a final match eventually. I'm not in shape for it yet; I'm hurting too much. I'm hoping my pain heals up; I'm sure it will. I'd like to do my final match with them [AEW] because they have a big platform and a big paycheck...Probably a barbed wire match, or I'd really like to do a barbed wire explosion match done in the right way," he said.
The former FTW Heavyweight Champion has been in the pro wrestling profession since the mid-80s. He has worked in a bunch of other top promotions like WWE, ECW, TNA, and many more.
