"I did what I was asked to do" - 57-year-old legend addresses underwhelming WWE run
Several wrestlers rose to prominence during WWE's Attitude and the Ruthless Aggression era. While stars like Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, Triple H, Undertaker, and more became household names, some talents didn't achieve the same success as those mentioned above.
AEW color commentator Taz is one such name. The 57-year-old was signed with the WWE in 1999 after several years of dominance in ECW. He made his debut against WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle in 2000 and won this match convincingly. After such an impressive and strong first impression, fans believed Vince McMahon would book him as a top guy. However, his run in the company was underwhelming. He was booked more like an enhancement talent and failed to replicate the success he achieved in ECW.
A few hours ago, a fan of X (fka Twitter) brought up The Human Suplex Machine's World Wrestling Entertainment run. He said that the Stamford-based company failed the veteran. However, Taz's response to this was optimistic and mature. He stated that he had a job, and he did it. Furthermore, he said that he was not sad because ultimately, he was performing in a TV show.
"Haha, look… I appreciate what you’re saying… I really do! But please realize everything that happened, I was well aware was going to happen. I’m an entertainer. I did my job. I did what I was asked to do. It’s no different than what actors do on a TV show or a movie. Nothing is “sad”, it’s a show!," he wrote.
Some career achievements of former WWE star Taz
Taz is best known for his brilliant run in ECW. In the Philadelphia-based company, he won the ECW World Heavyweight Championship twice, the FTW Heavyweight Championship twice, the ECW World Television Championship twice and the ECW World Tag Team Championship thrice.
He is also a three-time WWF Hardcore Champion and a former WWF Tag Team Champion with Spike Dudley.
