"I do have interest in AEW," declares former SmackDown star recently released by WWE

A former NXT North American Champion showed interest in joining AEW after his recent release from WWE. The star is officially a free agent after his no-compete clause ended.

The former SmackDown star in question is Trevor Lee (fka Cameron Grimes). He joined WWE's developmental brand, NXT, back in 2019. Trevor moved to the main roster when he joined SmackDown last year. However, he was released from the company in April earlier this year.

Cameron Grimes last appeared on an episode of SmackDown in April where he was squashed by Bron Breaker. Meanwhile, Trevor Lee recently announced that he is a free agent after his 90-day no-compete clause officially ended. The star has been rumored to join AEW as well.

Trevor Lee also showed interest in signing with Tony Khan's promotion. During a virtual signing with K&S Wrestlefest, Trevor admitted that he has an interest in All Elite Wrestling along with other companies as well:

“I have interest in absolutely every company. But, I do have interest in AEW. Why wouldn’t I? It’s doing what they’re supposed to do and it’s shocking the culture and it’s stirring up a firestorm that is the new era of wrestling so, of course.” [H/T Cultaholic]

Former WWE star on his sudden release

The former WWE star, Trevor Lee (fka Cameron Grimes) revealed his thoughts on his sudden release from the Stamford-based promotion in April. Trevor admitted the following about the same:

“It happens, right? [Getting released] A lot of it was timing. It was poor timing but the beauty of this business is that it never ends. So, it’s unfortunate but, it helps build that story, and that’s where it all is. It’s all pieces that build that story and whenever I do make it back, it’ll mean even more.” [H/T Cultaholic]

Trevor Lee is now set to make his in-ring return after WWE, competing in the independent circuit. Only time will tell what's next for the 30-year-old star.
