"I don't have much time left" - Top AEW star teases retiring hours before WrestleDream 2024
AEW is heading to Tacoma, WA, tonight for the second-annual WrestleDream pay-per-view. The event's card is stacked with highly anticipated matchups, but the most impactful could be the World Championship bout between Bryan Danielson and Jon Moxley.
Bryan Danielson is nearing the end of his full-time wrestling career, but he's still clinging to the AEW World Championship after being betrayed by The Blackpool Combat Club. The American Dragon has revealed that when he loses the title, he will retire from full-time competition.
Jon Moxley has vowed to send his former friend home empty-handed. Many are convinced that WrestleDream, which is being hosted in Danielson's home state of Washington, will be the last time The American Dragon competes for a while, if not ever.
With the stakes higher than ever, Bryan Danielson revealed to Justin Barrasso of Undisputed that his time was running out.
"The reality is, no matter what happens at WrestleDream, I don’t have much time left," Danielson stated. "October 4, 1999, was my first-ever wrestling match. In relation to those 25 years, I have a really short amount of time left. Any match can be your last match."
AEW World Champion Bryan Danielson has lost his respect for Jon Moxley
Jon Moxley and Bryan Danielson teamed up to form The Blackpool Combat Club in 2022. The faction, which grew to include Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta, and now Pac, has been at the top of the card for much of its existence. However, everything changed at All Out 2024.
Jon Moxley believes that Bryan Danielson has gone soft, and he's sick of The American Dragon's attitude regarding family and fans. For his part, the AEW World Champion is unable to forgive his former partner for the betrayal.
In a recent countdown released on social media, Danielson revealed that he had lost his respect for The Purveyor of Violence:
"It's so easy to lose someone's respect. You spend a lifetime gaining someone's respect. But in just a snap of a finger, you can lose it. I respect things about Jon Moxley, but I can no longer respect Jon Moxley the human."
The two will meet in the main event of WrestleDream tonight, with both the AEW World Championship and Danielson's career on the line.
