"I think I look athletic" - Former AEW champion responds to criticism of his physique (Exclusive)
AEW's roster has no dearth of talented names, although most do not boast intimidating physiques. A particular star recently answered questions regarding his own body, which has received some criticism over the years.
The star, Orange Cassidy, is among the most agile wrestlers in the Jacksonville-based promotion. This obviously requires him to be leaner than a powerhouse like Wardlow, but it makes him incredibly athletic when it comes to in-ring fighting. He was recently asked about his physique and got an interesting answer.
Speaking in an interview with Bill Apter for Sportskeeda, the former AEW International Champion explained:
"I think I look athletic. I just think it's who I am. I can't, uh, I can't change my athletic build drastically. I think this is where we are at, and I just wanna make... As long as I can do what I can, as long as I can do what I want to in the professional wrestling ring, that is how much I am going to, you know, get into my body shape," he said. [7:11 onwards]
The AEW star also responded to criticism regarding his wrestling style
Orange Cassidy's signature move is putting both his hands in his pockets and proceeding to win, more often than not, against his opponent.
This has garnered him some criticism, as some believe it breaks the suspension of disbelief. However, Orange Cassidy stated in the same interview that the critics probably haven't seen his matches.
"Very much so... Some of those old-school wrestler types say that I am not respecting the business or respecting professional wrestling. I tend to think they have never seen me wrestle, and they don't know what they are talking about." [4:07 onwards]
As of now, it remains to be seen what is next for Orange Cassidy down the line in AEW.
