Internal push to change controversial finish at AEW WrestleDream; The Young Bucks respond

The Young Bucks faced one of their greatest rivals in a match for the AEW World Tag Team Championship at WrestleDream 2024. While the EVPs came out on top, there was controversy regarding the Private Party's push, and it seems that some within the company were rooting for the underdogs to win the match as well.

Private Party shocked the world when they defeated The Young Bucks on the second-ever episode of Wednesday Night Dynamite back in October 2019. Isiah Kassidy and Marq Quen were relatively unknown back then, but they've become a mainstay in AEW's tag team division in the years since.

Private Party earned a shot at the AEW World Tag Team Championship at WrestleDream. Fans got behind the young stars, and at a few points, it actually seemed like they might walk out with the titles. However, the Bucks managed to survive, and many have claimed that it was a missed opportunity for the company.

After a report surfaced that there had been an internal push for Private Party to win the titles, Matthew and Nicholas Jackson took to X/Twitter and posted a famous line associated with Hulk Hogan:

"That doesn't work for us, brother," the Bucks wrote.

Despite their history against the EVPs, Private Party was still the underdog heading into WrestleDream. However, Kassidy and Quen managed to take Matthew and Nicholas Jackson to the limit and almost won the titles.

Following their successful defense against Private Party, The Young Bucks admitted on X/Twitter that their rivals were better than they remembered:

"Okay. They’re better than we remembered. Maybe our toughest defense this go around. But, the greatest tag team title run in history must continue. Is there no one else?"

Both The Young Bucks and Jack Perry barely escaped WrestleDream with their championships, but The Elite is still on top, at least for now. But with Kenny Omega and Kota Ibushi potentially returning soon, their reign of terror could be in jeopardy.
