Is AEW misleading fans with Hurt Syndicate's run as heels? WWE veteran believes so
A WWE veteran analyzed if AEW should continue using the Hurt Syndicate as heels. The star who gave his opinion was Tommy Dreamer.
Bobby Lashley, Shelton Benjamin, and MVP were reunited in the Jacksonville-based promotion in October 2024. They were known as Hurt Business in WWE and worked as heels on TV. The trio has been a villainous faction since they arrived in AEW, where they brutalized the company's beloved star, Swerve Strickland.
Despite being heels in the promotion, The Hurt Syndicate received thunderous pop from the crowd until now, making critics wonder if the faction would be better booked as babyfaces. Veteran Tommy Dreamer recently opened up on the subject.
While speaking on Busted Open Radio, the ECW legend claimed that the stable should be booked as babyfaces. He also stated that the AEW roster lacked strong heels and babyfaces.
"The Hurt Syndicate are miscast. Hurt Syndicate are babyfaces," Dreamer critiqued. "But here's the other issue: The AEW fans, there's very few heels/babyfaces. (...) If that's the route [AEW is] going to take, I don't know if it is, but you need your babyfaces super strong and your heels super strong to get people to really," he said. [H/T - WrestlingInc.]
Hurt Syndicate's Bobby Lashley revealed why he sighed with AEW
Shelton Benjamin and MVP arrived in AEW a few weeks ahead of The All Mighty. The latter recently became a free agent and was exploring his options.
While speaking on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Bobby Lashley revealed that the trio decided to reunite the group in AEW after a few discussions.
"I was talking to MVP, and I was talking to Shelton, and we were like, 'Let's run this back. Let's run the group back. Let's do it. We have that option. We're all out at this time. So, let's see if we can go and do this the right way,'" he said.
It will be interesting to see who would be the next target of the trio.
