"It's the stupidest thing you've ever said" - Britt Baker reveals nervous backstage interaction with Tony Khan

AEW CEO Tony Khan always backs up his talent and Britt Baker recently revealed a brief interaction with the All Elite President before her return. The D.M.D. is a former Women's World Champion.

At AEW Forbidden Door 2024, Britt Baker made her shocking return to the company where she interrupted Mercedes Mone's celebration after her match. She would go on to face The CEO for the TBS Title at All In in a losing effort.

In a recent chat with Fightful Select's Sean Ross Sapp, Britt Baker recalled her conversation with Tony Khan moments before her return after a year-long absence. The D.M.D. said that she almost threw up because she felt the fans wouldn't care about her. She revealed Tony Khan's reaction to her words who called it the "stupidest thing" she's ever said.

"I was about to throw up. I told Tony [Khan] that I'm gonna throw up. I was in gorilla standing and he's like, 'Why?' And I was like, 'I don't think they're gonna care.' And he's like, 'It's the stupidest thing you've ever said'. I was really really concerned and nervous that the fans are not gonna care at all and I think that's anybody's fear."

Britt Baker continued:

"When you're gone for so long, what feels like you turn into a lot of fans, our sense of time and their sense of time is very different because every week you're at home. That was like a year, for them, it flies by. It was one of the most weirdest moments I had because I had no control." [5:40 - 6:47]

Bully Ray on Tony Khan's AEW booking

Tony Khan is often thrashed for his AEW booking and creative decisions. However, the All Elite honcho also receives praise from time to time from veterans. WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray has seemingly figured out Tony's thought process in the company's creative direction.

In a recent edition of the Busted Open podcast, Bully Ray claimed that Tony Khan prefers short-term storytelling over long-term because the fans want to see the company produce weekly storylines instead of waiting for a payoff after several months.

"I think [Khan's] overall feeling is that any type of long-term story is not where it's at for AEW. He thinks his fans want week-to-week television. That excites the fanbase. I'm almost happy to hear these words come out of Tony's mouth, because it helps me to understand his thought process when booking this stuff." [H/T Wrestling Inc]

Tony Khan did 'The Devil' storyline last year which was long-term and the recent Jon Moxley story also seemingly has a slow burn which could lead to a huge payoff. It will be interesting to see how things go in the upcoming months.
