Jeff Jarrett hits major AEW milestone

Jeff Jarrett has reached an interesting milestone in AEW. The achievement pertains to a championship he won a year ago and has held on to since.

The Last Outlaw debuted in the Jacksonville-based promotion in 2022, aligning himself with Jay Lethal, Sonjay Dutt, and Satnam Singh. The 57-year-old veteran has proven himself capable of entertaining fans even now, not just as a manager and as a veteran presence but also as an in-ring competitor.

Since arriving in AEW, Jarrett has been involved in several memorable segments and matches. Around a year ago, in one the most amusing albeit controversial bouts in the history of All Elite programming, Double J defeated Jeff Hardy in a Texas Chainsaw Massacre Death Match on the August 16, 2023 edition of AEW Dynamite.

The over-the-top matchup saw the employment of various weapons, including tables, kendo sticks, a hammer, and even a guitar. It also featured interference from allies of both competitors, including an appearance from a figure dressed as the fictional character Leatherface from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie franchise. The bout ended with Jarrett beating Hardy with help from Jay Lethal and Satnam Singh and being crowned the official Texas Chainsaw Massacre Death Match Champion.

The King of the Mountain has not defended the aforementioned title even once since defeating The Charismatic Enigma over a year ago. As a result, Jarrett's reign with the championship officially crossed the one-year mark earlier this month.

Jeff Jarrett's thoughts on the Texas Chainsaw Massacre Death Match on AEW Dynamite

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Death Match between Jeff Jarrett and Jeff Hardy on Dynamite: Fight For The Fallen 2023 received mixed responses from fans. Many critiqued various sequences and the overall production of the matchup, while others professed their enjoyment of its elaborate, indulgent, and entertaining quality.

Speaking on the My World with Jeff Jarrett podcast last year, Jarrett voiced his thoughts on the controversial match, confessing that he felt honored to have been involved in the bout and heaping praise on Jeff Hardy and on the other players who factored in the matchup for their part in its execution.

"But the audience being so passionate about it, I love that, okay, that lit a nerve. Not always good. Some people just didn’t like it, but I loved it. I thought it was an honor to be in that type of integration. It was definitely out of the box. I thought Jeff Hardy and his entire crew executed it to a tee," he said.

Jarrett was last seen in action in the squared circle in a losing effort against Bryan Danielson in an Anything Goes match on the August 7, 2024, episode of AEW Dynamite.
