Jim Cornette condemns AEW's decision to insert WWE legend's wife into a storyline
Wrestling legend Jim Cornette has blasted the inclusion of a WWE Hall of Famer's wife in a recent AEW storyline.
The Hall of Famer in question is Jeff Jarrett, who looked like he would get hit by FTR's Shatter Machine on the May 17 edition of AEW Dynamite. That was until his wife Karen Jarrett made her surprise debut, delivering a low blow to Cash Wheeler and allowing her husband and Jay Lethal to gain the upper hand.
On his podcast, the Jim Cornette Experience, Cornette stated that he had a lot of love for Karen Jarrett thanks to her ability to attract heat. However, in the veteran booker's opinion, Karen's inclusion in the AEW World Tag Team Championship feud wasn't the right thing to do.
"She's [Karen] got a great personality, she gets a tonne of heat, she's f**king fabulous. Does not need to be here in this environment right here and not this way because, again, if there were some coherent angle going on with matches and rematches with stipulations progressing fluidly between FTR and Jeff Jarrett and Jay Lethal, they would be good tag team matches, they could have good finishes to come back with a stipualtion that made sense."
Cornette explained what could have been an ideal scenario for Karen's AEW debut:
"If you did that for months, and then at some point Karen Jarrett made the difference and, in some fashion, cost FTR the belts or to even cost them some kind of victory without changing the belts or whatever, and then FTR got one of the girls off of the roster that might fit them, and you had a rivalry where now the girls are in the corner. Even build to a six-person, I could understand that." [1:27:54 - 1:28-56]
Will Karen Jarrett play a factor in the AEW World Tag Team Championship match at Double or Nothing?
The odds are certainly stacked against FTR going into Double or Nothing. They not only have to worry about Sonjay Dutt and Satnam Singh, but they now seemingly have to deal with Karen as well.
Karen could play a part in the AEW World Tag Team Championship match, pitting FTR against Jeff Jarrett and Jay Lethal. The bout will take place at Double or Nothing on May 28.
The only saving grace for the champions is that their good friend Mark Briscoe will be the special guest referee. But given Mark's lengthy history with Jay Lethal in ROH, the bout could go either way.
