Jim Cornette tells AEW to give up on a 31-year-old star: "Ain't gonna make it"
AEW star Sammy Guevara has been signed with the Jacksonville-based company since its inception. He has predominantly been wrestling for its sister promotion, Ring of Honor lately, where he is one-half of the ROH World Tag Team Champions with Dustin Rhodes.
Sammy Guevara has held the prestigious AEW TNT Championship thrice. Furthermore, he has been a member of popular factions such as The Don Callis Family, The Inner Circle, and more. Alongside MJF, Darby Allin, and Jack Perry, he was considered one of the four pillars of the promotion. However, he has lost a considerable amount of momentum over the past few months. Interestingly, Jim Cornette is not a big fan of 'The Spanish God'. He believes that Tony Khan should give up on the 31-year-old. He called the wrestler an experiment which has not been successful and advised the company to move on from him.
"Let's face it. Sammy is over as an experiment. I'm not saying over as a draw with fans. I'm talking over, as in time's up as an experiment. If they weren't going to bring him back with a major push after he's been gone for this long at least from our eyesight doing Ring of Honor or whatever the f**k, then apparently he has just pissed off people that they've given up. And I'm not saying that he should have beaten Shelton Benjamin or been in any way competitive with him. No! Farther from this was the best thing in the program. I'm just saying, Sammy, ain't gonna make it," said Jim Cornette. [From 1:50 to 2:44]
AEW star Sammy Guevara on parenthood
Sammy Guevara is married to fellow AEW star Tay Melo. They have a daughter together, who was born in November of last year. Before the birth of his child, he had an interview with Scott Fishman of TV Insider, where he talked about parenthood.
"I think it will be a fun journey. Last year we got two kittens. That was a whole thing when you’re gone for weeks at a time. So we brought them with us. If we start the kid off young traveling, they are not going to know anything different,” said Guevara. [H/T TV Insider]
In last week's Dynamite, Guevara locked horns with Shelton Benjamin and was defeated. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for him.
