Jim Ross claims former talents will run out of money before Tony Khan does after they file a lawsuit against AEW
Former AEW stars recently filed a lawsuit against Tony Khan and his company. Meanwhile, WWE Hall of Famer and current AEW commentator Jim Ross has now weighed in on the subject.
Earlier this year, Tony Khan released The Tate Twins (aka The Boys) and Kevin Kelly from his roster. Brandon and Brent Tate joined AEW in May 2021 and were released by the company in April 2024. Meanwhile, Kevin Kelly, who was roped in as a commentator in June 2023, was fired in March 2024.
According to the latest report by The Wrestling News, the released stars have filed a lawsuit against the Jacksonville-based promotion, accusing Khan of defamation.
In the recent edition of the Grilling JR podcast, Jim Ross discussed the AEW lawsuit. The legendary commentator claimed that The Tate Twins and Kevin Kelly would run out of money in their battle against Tony Khan.
“When you sign your contract, you agree to the terms. And that would include being an independent contractor. The Plaintiffs (Kelly and the Tates) will run out of money before Tony Khan does. I don’t hold out much hope they’re going to get any kind of settlement whatsoever, but maybe I’m wrong. I’m not a judge or a lawyer or anything along those lines,” he said.
The 72-year-old further added that while he wasn't familiar with The Tate Twins, he had an old friendship with Kevin Kelly. Ross admitted that he was sad to see Kelly leave the Jacksonville-based promotion. as the latter had ''a lot to offer.''
“I’m not familiar with those two wrestlers you’re talking about (Brendan and Brandon Tate). I know who they are. Kevin Kelly’s been an old friend of mine for years. I was sad to see him leave. He just wasn’t happy. I think he wanted a bigger role that wasn’t available to him, and then all of a sudden he’s gone, and it’s unfortunate and sad because he has a lot to offer,” Jim Ross added. Jim Ross advises Tony Khan to take things slow with recent signee
After weeks of speculation, former WWE Superstar Ricochet made his grand AEW debut at All In in front of a massive crowd at the Wembley Stadium in London. The former Intercontinental Champion participated in the Casino Gauntlet Match and delivered an entertaining performance.
While there is understandable excitement around the former RAW Superstar's future in the Jacksonville-based company, Jim Ross advised Tony Khan to take things slow with Ricochet during the recent episode of his Grilling JR podcast.
Jim Ross stated that there were many high-flyers in AEW; therefore, rushing Ricochet's progress might damage the latter's popularity.
It will be interesting to see what the Tony Khan-led creative team has in store for the erstwhile Prince Puma in the coming weeks.
