Jim Ross tried getting a major heavyweight signed by Tony Khan: "Was in my short list of guys I wanted to see at AEW"
WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross recently revealed that he pitched a popular wrestler to AEW President Tony Khan. JR had the star shortlisted as he was impressed with his talent.
Jeff Cob is currently signed with New Japan Pro-Wrestling and has made multiple AEW appearances in the past as well. He was last seen on an episode of Dynamite last month, where he teamed with Kyle Fletcher and lost to Bryan Danielson and Jon Moxley. The star is one of the most sought-after stars in the world with his impressive NJPW resume.
Speaking on his Grilling JR podcast, veteran commentator Jim Ross recently disclosed that Jeff Cobb was on his shortlist of wrestlers he wanted to see in AEW. He even suggested the name to Tony Khan.
"Yeah, he [Jeff Cobb] was one of my original guys that when Tony and I talked about talent and bring talent in, he was in my short list of guys that I wanted to see at AEW. He's a classy guy, he's a professional, he's very talented, he can work with anybody, and believably work with anybody. So, I don't know what role he's going to have if any, at the next AEW pay-per-view, but I hope he does have one because he always delivers, he's a unique guy." [20:12-20:48]
Jim Ross is hopeful that Tony Khan will bring the NJPW star to AEW
Jim Ross also explained how someone like NJPW star Jeff Cobb can add value to the AEW locker room. He stated that he is hopeful that Cobb will be a part of the promotion.
"So, but Jeff is a real... he's a nice man, he's a good, classy guy, and I hope that he does something with us because anytime you can add guys like that with that sort of demeanor into your locker room you win, whether they win or not is irrelevant, the company wins by doing business with people like Jeff Cobb. So, hopefully he'll be a part of that show." [21:08-21:35]
Only time will tell if Tony Khan will bring in the NJPW star to the promotion in the near future.
