John Cena told a top AEW star something that he still believes is true

WWE legend John Cena never shies away from giving feedback to the talent, and a top AEW star and Blackpool Combat Club member recently recalled what the 16-time World Champion said to him. The star is none other than Claudio Castagnoli.

The former ROH World Champion was signed to WWE for 11 years as Cesaro and had his fair share of battles against John Cena, notably during his United States Championship Open Challenges in 2015. Claudio Castagnoli left the promotion in 2022 to sign with AEW and has been a member of the Blackpool Combat Club with Jon Moxley, PAC, and Wheeler Yuta. Moxley recently aligned himself with Marina Shafir.

In a recent chat on The Takedown on SI, Claudio Castagnoli recalled how John Cena once praised his performance by saying he was as good as his previous matches. The former United States Champion noted that he focuses on providing the same quality in every bout and tries to stay consistent.

"I think John Cena said it once to me, he said, 'You're only as good as your last match,' and I very much believed that and that's how I approach every single match. Every single match I wanna be proud of and I feel like I owe that to people who followed my career and all that to every single person tuning in for the first time or 100th time. When I'm in the ring they just know they getting the best consistently." [From 12:15 to 12:41]

Claudio Castagnoli believes he's doing the best in-ring work in AEW

Claudio Castagnoli has always been praised for his in-ring work and many called him the most underutilized star during his time with WWE. He has had some of his best matches in AEW since 2022 and recently made an interesting claim about his work.

In the same interview with The Takedown on SI, Claudio was asked whether his current run is the best work of his entire career. The AEW star agreed and said he could probably quit professional wrestling if he didn't think that way.

"Yes, if I wouldn't feel that way, I'll probably think about quitting. I always said that I wanna be the best version that I can be right now and my focus is to be the best version tomorrow. That comes to every single match, that comes to every single promo, that comes to every single time I'm on TV. I wanna be the best that I can be that given day." [From 11:43 to 12:14]

Claudio Castagnoli is currently involved in a major storyline against Bryan Danielson, who was recently kicked out of the Blackpool Combat Club by Jon Moxley.
