Jon Moxley's AEW booking analyzed with WWE during historic period by multi-time champion
AEW World Champion Jon Moxley and his group, Blackpool Combat Club, have been wreaking havoc on the All Elite roster. Wrestling veterans Bully Ray and Tommy Dreamer have compared the angle to booking strategies used by WWE and WCW in the past.
The October 23, 2024, edition of Dynamite continued the promotion's ongoing storyline of Jon Moxley and The Blackpool Combat Club waging war against the Tony Khan-led promotion. Throughout the episode, members of the AEW locker room rallied and waited for the heel faction's arrival, but the latter outsmarted the roster and carried out another frightening ambush to end the show.
On the latest episode of Busted Open Radio, multi-time champion Bully Ray commended All Elite Wrestling for booking The BCC story as a consistent narrative thread throughout this week's Dynamite, paralleling it with WWE's creative output during the Attitude Era.
"I did like AEW's attempt at threading the story throughout the night," Bully said. "Moxley's gonna show up with his crew, and we are going to be waiting for them. ... Whether or not you like the meat and potatoes of the story is one thing, but they are attempting to thread a story, to keep you on the channel. This is very much like Vince Russo's attempt to book the WWE back in the day."
Tommy Dreamer, on the other hand, compared the angle in question to The NWO running roughshod in WCW.
"I got more WCW vibes when the NWO burst on the scene," Dreamer said. "You did have that shot of your babyfaces waiting for the bad guys to show up. I believe it went into the Kevin Nash lawn-darting Rey Mysterio moment. I had a lot of WCW vibes from it." [H/T Wrestling Inc]
Jon Moxley and The BCC carried out another assault on AEW Dynamite
Wednesday Night Dynamite this week opened with another ominous message from Jon Moxley, who continued to justify The BCC's recent actions as being intended for the "greater good" of AEW and promised to destroy "a little piece" of somebody from the locker room by the end of the episode.
The One True King kept his promise, as Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta evaded the babyfaces standing guard outside the arena to lay out Daniel Garcia and Private Party. Afterward, Moxley tossed a retired Chuck Taylor into the ring, and Castagnoli delivered a stomp on the latter's neck with a steel chair wrapped around it.
The episode ended with a devastated Orange Cassidy gazing at an unconscious Taylor as his fellow All Elite stars rushed to the ring to chase off The BCC.
