Jon Moxley's title reign could be in serious jeopardy following popular AEW star's threat

A former WWE star has seemingly challenged current IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Jon Moxley to a world title match. The star also recalled his match with Moxley from a few years ago.

The popular AEW star in question is Lance Archer. The Murderhawk Monster has been in the wrestling industry for the past two decades. Archer had a brief run in WWE between 2009 and 2010 before he moved to New Japan Pro Wrestling, where he spent four years between 2011 and 2015. The 47-year-old made his AEW debut in 2020. Lance currently performs on New Japan and other indie promotions apart from Tony Khan's promotion.

Archer competed on Collision last week, as he teamed up with The Righteous against Claudio Castagnoli, Daniel Garcia, and Hiroshi Tanahashi in a losing cause. Nonetheless, The Murderhawk Monster has his sights set on Jon Moxley's IWGP World Heavyweight Title, as he shared a message for the former Dean Ambrose.

Lance Archer took to the X social media platform to share a picture recalling his match with Moxley for the IWGP US Title on an episode of Dynamite in July 2021. Lance surprisingly defeated Moxley in that match and became the new IWGP US Champion. The 47-year-old has now demanded a shot at the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship based on his previous victory over Moxley.

"I’ve beat Jon [Moxley]! I want the @njpw1972 #IWGPchampionship!" he wrote.

Jon Moxley secured victory at AEW Double or Nothing

After winning the IWGP Heavyweight Title in April 2024, Jon Moxley has established himself as a fighting champion. The former WWE Superstar locked horns with Konosuke Takeshita at Double or Nothing in a Title Eliminator Match. After a terrific back-and-forth, Moxley came out on top and stopped Takeshita from getting an opportunity at his championship.

Meanwhile, Moxley is set to defend the IWGP World Heavyweight Title against NJPW star EVIL next month. The reigning champion will defend his title at Dominion on June 9, 2024.
