Jon Moxley speaks out on abruptly ending Bryan Danielson’s full-time career in AEW
AEW World Champion Jon Moxley has shared his thoughts on retiring Bryan Danielson from full-time in-ring competition. Moxley explained in detail why he did that.
At the 2024 WrestleDream pay-per-view, Jon Moxley defeated Bryan Danielson in the main event to capture the AEW World Championship. After the match, The American Dragon was destroyed by his former BCC stablemates. Wheeler Yuta also turned his back on the veteran and choked him out with a plastic bag.
During an interview with Youngstown Studio, Moxley said he took up the responsibility of ending Danielson's full-time in-ring career. The Purveyor of Violence added that he wasn't concerned about fans' adverse reactions to the development.
"Bryan Danielson is not on the board anymore. I took that piece of the board, and it is not part of the game anymore, and you know some people might not be happy about that and they might voice their displeasure about that and they might shower me with vitriol about that. But I can handle that because there are some things that just have to be done and somebody has got to do them."
The AEW World Champion further claimed that he could stand tall in the most challenging situations.
"Someone has to have the constitution to be able to handle that vitriol and to be able to put themselves in a position to weather that storm, to stand tall in the rain and the wind and the ice, and the hail and just to take whatever comes because there are things that somebody has to do." Jon Moxley sends a message to fans who were appalled by Bryan Danielson's loss
Many fans were shocked and appalled by Bryan Danielson's defeat at AEW WrestleDream. The Jon Moxley-led group added insult to injury by assaulting The American Dragon after the match alongside the BCC.
During the same interview, Jon Moxley asked fans to watch the pay-per-view replay before judging his actions.
"If people were shocked or appalled or felt that something crossed the line or was too violent or too shocking, well, you're gonna have to go and buy the replay and judge for yourself." [7:27 - 7:55]
Only time will tell what's next for Moxley after winning the AEW World Title. Meanwhile, Danielson is expected to undergo surgery before he can set foot inside the squared circle again.
