Kenny Omega breaks silence on choosing another wrestling promotion over AEW
Kenny Omega is expected to return to action in a familiar promotion outside of AEW. The Cleaner shared his views on the matter in an interview recently.
Earlier this month, Kenny Omega made a shocking appearance at NJPW Power Struggle 2024 and revealed his intention of making his in-ring comeback in the Tokyo-based company against one of its budding stars on January 5 at Wrestle Dynasty. It seems like the former IWGP Heavyweight Champion's opponent may be none other than Bullet Club War Dogs member Gabe Kidd, whom Omega ended up in a brawl with backstage recently.
During an interview with Sean Ross Sapp, The Best Bout Machine opened up on returning to the squared circle in an NJPW ring, explaining the decision as a gesture of gratitude towards the company for platforming and popularizing him as a pro wrestler during his time there.
"A lot of people, not only in Japan but internationally, they never knew who I was until I did big things in New Japan [Pro Wrestling]. So I really due New Japan a gigantic thank you, and I do feel that there is a debt I have to repay in some way, shape, form, or fashion. And I think that if by performing at the Tokyo Dome...is a way to help repay that, if it can help something for their business, then I'm more than happy to do that," said Omega.
Omega went on to share that he decided against making his comeback in All Elite Wrestling to not take away the spotlight from talent engaged in the Tony Khan-led promotion's ongoing angles and storylines.
"It's tough to answer. Why not AEW? There's nothing wrong with AEW at all. If you watch any of the episodes of our TV recently, everything is flowing like clockwork right now. I feel like there's a spot for all the hardworking men and women that are on those shows...I feel like if I just kind of showed up and said, 'Hey guys, I'm back,' so one of you [is] gonna have to, you know [gestures backwards with his head], I just don't, I don't wanna be that guy. So I feel like, when there's an opportunity again when there's a chance, sure, I'd love to be back if you guys can have me."
Former manager of AEW's Kenny Omega plans to speak to his prospective upcoming opponent
Viewers of both AEW and NJPW are keen to watch Kenny Omega mix it up with Gabe Kidd. The latter has made a name for himself through his intense, no-nonsense character work and hard-hitting in-ring style.
Kidd has made no bones about his plans to hurt the former Elite member in their potential upcoming match. One of Omega's All Elite nemeses - former manager Don Callis - recently revealed that he was "looking forward to" speaking with the reigning Strong Openweight Champion.
It remains to be seen whether The Invisible Hand will play a role in costing Omega against Kidd should they face off at Wrestle Dynasty.
