Kenny Omega says he will never let 27-year-old star join AEW - "He will never see the light of TV"
Kenny Omega had some choice words about a young star. This comes after the rising star attacked him recently.
Kenny Omega made an appearance at NJPW Power Struggle earlier this month, where he announced that he wanted to return to the company for Wrestle Dynasty 2025. Following this, Gabe Kidd attacked the Best Bout Machine backstage, and the two men brawled. It appears that the AEW EVP has not forgotten about the attack.
During a recent interview with NJPW, Omega stated that if Gabe Kidd wanted a match at Wrestle Dynasty on January 5th, he would give it to him. He further added that he will see to it that Gabe never joins AEW. The best he could do was offer the rising star a dark match when the promotion rolls through town, but he will never compete on AEW TV unless Omega gives the go-ahead.
“I can tell you as someone that knows: someone like Gabe Kidd will not set foot in AEW. Maybe if we’re passing through town, grab your boots kid, have a dark match. He will never see the light of TV unless he gets a very positive review from yours truly. I would love to forgive and forget one time years from now, but I don’t see it happening. For anyone that thinks that Gabe might end up the same way as Jay White, or Kazuchika Okada, or Will Ospreay? Gabe Kidd is all your responsibility.” [H/T NJPW's Medium Page]
Kenny Omega highlights key challenges he would face after making his return
Kenny Omega has been out of action for almost a year now due to diverticulitis. His last match took place on the December 5, 2023, episode of Collision when he faced Ethan Page. Since then, he has been recovering from his illness.
However, a recent appearance at Power Struggle 2024 and his most recent interview with NJPW has gotten fans excited that The Cleaner could be close to making his return. Given that he just had surgery, he might not be the same version of Kenny Omega that fans are expecting.
During a recent interview with Fightful, The AEW EVP noted that he now has to change the way he approaches his matches. He further added that he was leery about his health since he wasn't sure if he could give his best but NJPW is just happy for his return.
"I used to pride myself on the type of in-ring conditioning I would have," Omega said. "I would feel like it's their job to keep up with me. And now I sort of feel like a page has turned... the question is now, can I keep up with them? So the shoe is certainly on the other foot. I kinda told [NJPW] I was a little leery about how I was feeling. I wasn't sure how it would look. And I wasn't sure if I could give them the kind of Kenny Omega performance that maybe they were looking for. But they weren't looking for that. They're just happy to house my return." It will be interesting to see if Kenny Omega's health improves in time for Wrestle Dynasty 2025.
