Konnan admits Tony Khan treated current WWE Superstar like a “jobber”
Konnan recently claimed Tony Khan treated a WWE star like a jobber. The star being discussed is Lexis King. He is currently performing at the NXT brand and is a top heel in the promotion.
Recently, many former AEW stars have joined WWE. Jade Cargill, Ethan Page, Shawn Spears, and many others have left the Tony Khan-led promotion as they didn't find success in the company. One more star whose AEW run didn't work out for him was Brian Pillman Jr.
Lexis King wrestled as Brian Pillman Jr. in AEW for four years from 2019 to 2023. He didn't receive much of a push in the promotion. He then debuted in WWE in October 2023. He received a massive push in a short period during his tenure in NXT.
While speaking on Wise Choices with Eric Bischoff, Konnan stated that Tony Khan treated Lexis King as an enhancement talent during his run in AEW. He also reflected on another star, Shawn Spears, who didn't receive a push in AEW but has established himself as a top star in NXT.
“All right, here’s the facts. Brian Pillman, Jr. was treated like a [jobber]. remember in his own city, he got f**king dissed. I go, ‘Really, that’s a really smart way to get this guy over.’ Look how he’s doing an NXT… They make him look like a star. They feature him, they give him a lot of promo time. Shawn Spears, what did they do with him in [AEW]? Absolutely nothing. He went over there, look at him now," he said. (H/T EWrestlingNews)
Konnan claims it's hard to deal with Tony Khan
Konnan has been a top producer in AAA promotion for many years. AAA has been crossing over with Tony Khan's promotion and often features their stars in other promotions.
While speaking on Keeping It 100 Official, the WCW Veteran admitted that AAA doesn't need AEW and how it is hard to deal with the promotion.
"We’ve been selling out everywhere. We don’t even need AEW, and they’re expensive and it’s hard to deal with them because they pull 'em out at the last minute. I see they haven’t had that problem with Arena Mexico," Konnan said.
It will be interesting to see which stars could be next to jump ship to WWE in the future.
