Konnan confesses it’s hard to deal with Tony Khan: “We’ve been selling out everywhere, we don’t even need AEW”
Wrestling veteran Konnan recently claimed working with Tony Khan was difficult. The AEW President and former WCW star are connected through the relationship of Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide (AAA) and AEW. Konnan worked in WCW from 1996 till 2001.
The 60-year-old veteran has wrestled in promotions like WWE, TNA Wrestling, WCW, and many more. He also hosts a podcast called Keepin' It 100 OFFICIAL where he often criticizes Tony Khan over his booking decisions.
For many years, AAA has been doing multiple crossovers with the Jacksonville-based promotion. Stars from both promotions occasionally appear in other companies. Along with the Mexico-based promotion, AEW also works with NJPW, CMLL, and Arena Mexico.
While speaking on his Keepin' It 100 OFFICIAL podcast, Konnan revealed that it was hard to work with Tony Khan and Co. because the promotion pulls out their stars, who are set to appear on AAA, at the last minute. The 60-year-old also stated that their promotion does not need AEW.
"We’ve been selling out everywhere. We don’t even need AEW, and they’re expensive and it’s hard to deal with them because they pull 'em out at the last minute. I see they haven’t had that problem with Arena Mexico. Whether he’s trying to stick it up…because I don’t put over his thing or he’s just having a good business relationship and it’s easier to work with them, I have no idea," Konnan said. Konnan reveals AEW President Tony Khan was "really mad" about an incident
During the pandemic era, Tay Melo was supposed to be featured on AAA as a part of their crossover with AEW. However, she was pulled from the show as Tony Khan wanted to use her in the Jacksonville-based promotion as a replacement for some other wrestler. While describing the incident on his podcast, Konnan cited the unrevealed name as "some chick."
While speaking on his Keepin' It 100 OFFICIAL podcast, the 60-year-old revealed that the AEW President was furious at him for calling the female AEW star inappropriately.
"Tony (Khan) got really, really mad about this and I can’t even believe he got mad," Konnan said.
It will be interesting to see if these comments by Konnan change the relationship between the two promotions.
