Konnan confident there is backstage jealousy in AEW towards a former WWE star
Wrestling veteran Konnan is confident that a former WWE star has backstage heat in AEW. The star in question is none other than Mercedes Mone.
The CEO arrived in AEW in March and has been presented as one of the top stars in the promotion. Mercedes made her in-ring debut at Double or Nothing where she captured the TBS Women's Title. At the AEW Forbidden Door PPV, she managed to become a Double Champ by winning the NJPW Strong Women's Title. Mercedes Mone also reportedly has creative control in the Jacksonville-based promotion.
Speaking on the Keepin' It 100 podcast, WCW veteran Konnan claimed that many female talent might be jealous of Mercedes Mone as she's the only Women's star presented in AEW commercials and is making four times more than other talent:
"When I met her, she was super super cool and she actually came up to me and hugged me because she was a big Eddie and Rey fan. But I guarantee you that there's gotta be a ton of jealousy. She's the face of the Women's thing. I've seen her in commercials. They don't show any other girls just her. She's making probably four times more money than the next girl and she's got creative control." [1:55-2:30]
Disco Inferno further questioned the claim about heat on Mercedes Mone in AEW
In the same episode, WCW veteran Disco Inferno questioned how Mercedes Mone can have heat in professional wrestling as she seems like a likable talent. Inferno spoke about the friendships of Mercedes Mone with Bayley and Naomi and how she has strong relationships in the business:
"Tony gave her creative control that's gonna cause issues because so many wrestlers are in TK's ears. It's gonna cause a ton of drama. Is she getting backstage heat? from my perception, I don't know if she's got heat because it looks like she had a really good bond with those WWE girls. She's got some really strong friendships in this business so if I hear personally that she has issues, I'm wondering about the people that are bringing that up because she seems like a girl who is well-liked. So If I hear that she's got heat, who does she got heat with? [0:50-1:35]
Mercedes Mone has revealed that she loves her time in All Elite Wrestling. It will be interesting to see if we see The CEO make her WWE return one day.
