Konnan is convinced current AEW champion will return to WWE and retire
The AEW roster features several former WWE Superstars who have had Hall of Fame-worthy careers in the Stamford-based promotion. Meanwhile, wrestling veteran Konnan recently claimed that a current AEW champion would return to the Sports Entertainment juggernaut for a final in-ring stint and a possible induction into the prestigious club.
Chris Jericho is an AEW Original, but before signing with Tony Khan, Y2J spent almost 30 years working for WWE, WCW, and ECW, among other promotions. The current AEW FTW Champion is a four-time WWE World Champion. He is also the ninth Triple Crown Champion and the fourth Grand Slam Champion.
Speaking on his Keepin' It 100 OFFICIAL podcast, Konnan predicted Jericho would return to WWE one day for a Hall of Fame induction. The 60-year-old predicted this after his co-host informed him that The Learning Tree was paid $3 million per year during his first AEW deal and was set to make more under the extension that would go through 2025.
Konnan added that Jericho should retire from in-ring duties in the company (WWE) that turned the latter into a legend.
"So, he'll [Chris Jericho] take all that money as long as he can and still get a [WWE] Hall of Fame [induction]. I mean, that's where he needs to retire. That's [who] made him who he is today, and they do it right," Konnan said. [From 3:17 to 3:29]
Jericho's last WWE appearance came in April 2018 at the Greatest Royal Rumble event in Saudi Arabia, where he was the final entrant in the 50-man main event. After spending three minutes and 18 seconds, Y2J was eliminated by Braun Strowman, who ended up winning the match.
Chris Jericho is set to face former WWE and current AEW star in CMLL
Chris Jericho made his CMLL debut in 1993 and had an 11-month reign as the NWA World Middleweight Champion. Billed as Corazón de León or Lionheart, he won the title from Mano Negra in Mexico City but dropped the strap 339 days later to Ultimo Dragon in Japan.
The current FTW Champion made a surprise appearance last month at Arena Mexico, attacking Mistico and laying him out to boos from the audience. It was later announced that Jericho would face the legendary luchador at CMLL's 91st Anniversary show on Friday, September 13, in Mexico City.
This will be the first-ever Jericho vs. Mistico singles bout. Y2J's last CMLL match came on September 19, 1995, when he lost a Best Two Out of Three Falls Match against Apolo Dantes with the CMLL World Heavyweight Championship on the line.
