"Looking forward to that"- WWE's Booker T excited for a massive Shelton Benjamin match in AEW
AEW recently signed MVP and Shelton Benjamin. The former WWE duo has officially arrived at the company, which immediately opens the door to potential new rivalries and alliances. Booker T is no stranger to sharing his thoughts on the All Elite product, and now the NXT commentator has revealed why he wants to see Benjamin face a certain top star.
The Gold Standard defeated Lio Rush in his AEW debut this past week on Dynamite. He will face Sammy Guevara this coming Wednesday, and one week later, he will lock up with Swerve Strickland on the Fright Night Dynamite. The rivalry between their managers will also continue as Prince Nana accompanies Strickland to the ring while Montel Vontavious Porter is in Benjamin's corner.
Fright Night will mark the second-ever singles bout between the former WWE Superstars. Speaking on his Hall of Fame podcast, Booker T said he's looking forward to seeing Benjamin bring his almost twenty-five years of experience up against the near-17-year industry veteran in Strickland.
"I'm kind of looking forward to that. I want to see exactly how that thing plays out, what that kind of match looks like. It's kind of crazy, Shelton's got over twenty years [in the business]. Swerve, he's been in the game quite some time as well. I don't think he's got twenty [years] in, but he might be getting close, maybe twelve-to-fifteen. That should be a very interesting match, it's definitely going to tell a tale. I want to see how much gas Shelton's still got in the tank, that's what I want to see. So, I'm looking forward to that match," Booker T said. [From 1:05:33 to 1:06:11]
Swerve and Benjamin have only faced off once before, on July 21, 2017. The 15-minute match was part of the first round of Impact Pro Wrestling's Hall of Fame Classic Tournament. Strickland won by countout but lost the tournament finals to Chuck Taylor.
MVP is recruiting additional AEW stars
Montel Vontavious Porter is apparently interested in creating his new faction in All Elite Wrestling, The Hurt Syndicate. A leaked backstage report notes that Bobby Lashley is still planned.
Wednesday's AEW Dynamite saw MVP and Shelton Benjamin interrupt Renee Paquette's backstage interview with The Acclaimed after Billy Gunn went to get the car. MVP gave his business card to Max Caster and advised them to get in touch when they're ready to take things seriously.
While Caster slipped the card into his pocket, Anthony Bowens seemed annoyed after telling MVP they needed nothing from him. Porter laughed while walking away as Benjamin stared Bowens down.
The Acclaimed are currently chasing AEW World Tag Team Champions, The Young Bucks, after defeating MxM Collection at WrestleDream, but a turn has been rumored for some time.
