Major AEW star reacts after John Cena announces Retirement Tour at WWE Money in the Bank

A current champion in AEW shared her reaction after 16-time WWE World Champion John Cena announced his retirement plans from in-ring action at the recent Money in the Bank Premium Live Event. The star shared a tribute to The Doctor of Thuganomics on social media.

The major AEW star referred to here is current TBS Champion and NJPW Strong Women's Champion, Mercedes Mone (FKA Sasha Banks). Before she arrived in Tony Khan's promotion earlier this year, Mercedes spent most of her pro wrestling career in the Stamford-based promotion. Meanwhile, Mone recently acknowledged The Franchise Player on her social media.

John Cena made a surprising appearance at the recent MITB PLE in Canada and made an emotional announcement regarding his retirement. The Cenation Leader revealed he will compete at next year's Royal Rumble, WrestleMania 41, and will also be present at RAW's maiden episode on Netflix next year. The Hollywood star later confirmed that his Retirement Tour will culminate at the end of 2025.

Following his big announcement, Cena got heartfelt reactions from the wrestling fraternity and fans. Former WWE Superstar Mercedes Mone also took to her Instagram to pay tribute to the 16-time WWE Champion. The erstwhile Sasha Banks shared some throwback pictures with Cena on her story.

John Cena says he will retire his in-ring uniform

After announcing his upcoming Retirement Tour, John Cena clarified his role in the Sports Entertainment juggernaut after his in-ring swansong. Speaking during the Money in the Bank post-show press conference, The Franchise Player stated he would retire his wrestling gear after his last in-ring performance and would don a suit and tie.

"My uniform will be retiring. You will see me in a suit and tie. I have no intention of being physical in any way—no guest refereeing, no falling through an accidental table. None of that stuff. I will be a fan and an advocate, and that's it," he said.

Only time will tell what Triple H and company have in store for John Cena's Retirement Tour.
