Major former WWE star confirms he has spoken to MVP about joining AEW: "You think they have enough money for me?"
AEW recently brought in MVP and Shelton Benjamin, but they are not the first big names to join the company from WWE. Amid rumors on another multi-time champion signing with Tony Khan, one top star just made very curious remarks on Khan and the company in confirming that he's discussed a run there.
Bobby Lashley left World Wrestling Entertainment at the same time Montel Vontavious Porter left. A recently leaked backstage report revealed a major update about Lashley going to All Elite Wrestling, but still, nothing has been confirmed. Rumors continue to indicate that The Hurt Syndicate is set to reunite in AEW soon, perhaps as soon as Full Gear.
The All-Mighty has remained quiet on AEW, at least for the most part, but he has now confirmed recent talks with MVP about his new employer. Speaking to The Lame Guys Podcast, the 48-year-old was asked to share his thoughts on his longtime associate in AEW, and if he might join Porter there:
"You think they have enough money for me? [laughs] MVP is great. The one thing I know with Tony Khan, and this is one thing I've seen that's really cool... fans need to understand this because sometimes they say, 'They're just getting old WWE guys.' With any show, you need your established guys to help establish some that aren't. MVP coming over brings a lot of notoriety, a fanbase, and a level starting that they can use. Some of the guys there are fantastic wrestlers, they just need to be in the ring with certain [talent]," Bobby Lashley said.
The Dominator continued:
"If [two fantastic wrestlers] just try to sell the match, it's hard because people are like, 'Oh, well, they just did some cool stuff.' Once you start mixing in people like Bryan Danielson, Adam Copeland, Christian, Samoa Joe, those guys get a good rub off of them. What Tony Khan is doing... I'm still friends with MVP, and I talk with him about going there. I said, 'How is it over there?' The one thing people say when they are there is, 'Tony Khan is a really good dude.' He is genuinely saying to people over there, 'You deserve to still carry on,'" Bobby Lashley said. [H/T to Fightful]
AEW still has not confirmed if MVP will wrestle for the company, but it has been rumored, along with major Lashley storylines. The veteran star will wrestle his first match since 2022 on November 24 at Josh Barnett's Bloodsport XII from GCW. Porter will face Josh Barnett himself.
