Major free agent says she'll join AEW only if Mercedes Mone personally invited her

A top free agent recently teased her AEW arrival by stating that she would only join the company if Mercedes Mone called her. The name in question is one-half of The Tonga Twins, Taahine Tonga.

The Tonga Twins consist of Taahine and TalaVou. The twins recently announced that they will be leaving the Women of Wrestling (WOW) promotion. The duo was recently spotted at WWE's Performance Center, which led to the belief that The Tonga Twins could be the Stamford-based promotion's next big acquisition. However, Taahine Tonga recently made an interesting statement about the duo's future.

In a Q&A session recently on her X (Twitter) account, Taahine Tonga was asked about whether The Tonga Twins would head to AEW or WWE. Taahine's response was certainly interesting, as she stated that the twins would only sign with Tony Khan's promotion if reigning TBS Champion Mercedes Mone invited her.

“If I’m at AEW, it’s only if the Moné calls," she wrote.

AEW star Mercedes Mone recently spoke about leaving WWE in 2022

The CEO shockingly walked out of the Sports Entertainment juggernaut in 2022 along with Naomi. Mercedes Mone moved to Japan and wrestled for over a year before signing a deal with All Elite Wrestling earlier this year.

During an appearance on the HOT 97 podcast last month, the erstwhile Sasha Banks revealed that the decision to leave WWE was tough, but she had to make it for the sake of her happiness.

"The biggest thing is just listening to my heart and my soul; something didn't felt [sic] right that day; how we were talked to didn't settle in my heart, and I just instantly knew like if I wasn't going to take control of my life right here and now, then I was never going to be happy there by having someone talk to me the way that they do or feeling like you just don't belong. To be with that company for 10 years and to walk out was the hardest decision I've ever made in my whole life," Mercedes said. [12:03-12:48]

Meanwhile, the 32-year-old is set to defend her TBS Title against Dr. Britt Baker at All In 2024. It will be interesting to see if The CEO retains her title at Wembley Stadium.
