Major WWE star could debut in AEW as The Elite’s surprise entrant in Owen Hart Cup, veteran says
A WWE Hall of Famer recently gave his take on The Elite's potential choice for their wildcard in AEW's Owen Hart Cup Tournament. He felt that a surprise debut could be in order. This was Tommy Dreamer talking about Ricochet.
Earlier this week on Dynamite, The Young Bucks revealed that they have handpicked the tournament's wild card, who will take on Jeff Jarrett in the quarterfinals. According to the EVPs, they felt this was someone good enough to bring the faction all the championship gold.
In a recent edition of the Busted Open Radio, Tommy Dreamer talked about The Young Bucks' announcement regarding the wildcard entrant. He felt that this could be Ricochet, and considered the implications should he win the tournament. With the winner earning a world title shot at All In, the former WWE Superstar could end up in a match against either Will Ospreay or Swerve Strickland at the event.
"I don't know [his] contract status, but I know everyone was going crazy about Ricochet," Dreamer said. "If you're going to tell me I could have Ricochet versus, not that I would vault him to the top, but a Ricochet-Will Ospreay match or a Ricochet-Swerve Strickland match, that's a thing. I don't know when his contract officially expires." [H/T - WrestlingInc.]
The veteran recently praised a popular AEW star
In an episode of the Busted Open Radio last month, Tommy Dreamer talked about how he was shocked by the mic work of a popular AEW star, and how must-see he has become.
This would be Will Ospreay, someone who has been regarded as one of the best in-ring performer in the industry currently. Dreamer compared The Aerial Assassin to the likes of Rob Van Dam and Shawn Michaels in terms of how "must-see" he was.
"I have been blown away with Will Ospreay's mic work," Dreamer said. "[He's] known as a great professional wrestler, perhaps one of the best professional wrestlers... I will throw him in the category of a Rob Van Dam [or] a Shawn Michaels for how he has risen to be this must-see type of person. But then his promos have really, really been good."
This weekend, Ospreay will be in his biggest match after signing with the company, and he'll be taking on one of the biggest names around the world in Swerve Strickland for the AEW World Championship. It remains to be seen whether he'll continue his hot streak, or be put in check by the champion.
