Malakai Black reminds Jim Ross of a WWE Hall of Famer: "Mystical voodoo s***"
Malakai Black portrays a necromancer-like character in AEW. He has a distinctive aura, but Jim Ross said he reminds him of WWE Hall of Famer Jake Roberts.
The former WWE star joined All Elite Wrestling in 2021 and is the leader of House of Black. He is a former AEW World Trios Champion with Brody King and Buddy Matthews.
On his Grilling JR podcast, Jim Ross lavished praise on the talented 39-year-old star. Ross said when he first met the leader of House of Black, he was reminded of Jake 'The Snake' Roberts.
"I think his future is always going to be bright. He's a creative guy. His tattoos are interesting as hell. He's a very creative guy. He likes to express himself. He reminded me, when I first met him, of circa Jake Roberts, in that kind of mystical voodoo s***." [H/T: WrestlingInc.]
Jim Ross feels Malakai Black can be an asset to any company
Jim Ross on his Grilling JR podcast also discussed Malakai Black being a skilled worker. The Hall of Famer said Black could pull off any gimmick be it a heel or babyface. He even claimed that the former WWE NXT Champion would be an asset to any company.
"You didn’t get enough consistency. He could have been more deeply woven into the storylines over time. He’s one of my favorite characters. He’s a smart guy. He’s a hell of a worker. He can be a babyface or a heel. Wherever he’s going to go, he’s going to make money, and he’s going to be an asset to any company that he works for,” Ross said.
Black's contract is rumored to expire at the end of 2024 or the beginning of 2025. There is no news about whether he plans to re-sign with the Jacksonville-based company or take his services elsewhere.
