Mariah May explains why she slapped her mother at AEW All In
Mariah May shocked fans at Wembley Stadium at AEW All In 2024 by slapping her mother during her World Championship match. The Glamour has now offered an explanation.
May dethroned Toni Storm at All In last month to become the new AEW Women's World Champion. At one point during the match, the 26-year-old star - who then held the advantage in the bout - had a hostile interaction with her mother, who was watching from the front row, slapping the latter hard across the face.
During a recent interview with Barstool Rasslin', May was asked if her mother could be expected to be in attendance for all her future matches, to which she responded:
"She's not going to come to all of my matches. She lives in London, she'll maybe get an invite to Forbidden Door [2025], maybe, at a push. She stays in her seat and keeps her mouth shut. [Upong being asked if she will slap her mother again] If she stays in her seat and keeps her mouth shut," said May.
May revealed that she struck her mother because the latter had supposedly suggested that her daughter was going overboard in her bout against The Timeless One. She explained the intensity of her performance by alluding to major decisions she has taken to advance her pro wrestling career.
"She was standing up and telling me to stop. Whose own mother tells them to stop.. I was trying to become a World Champion I left home at twenty to pursue my dreams of being a wrestler, I've moved countries twice because this is all I've ever wanted and she was telling me to stop. She said I was taking it too far."
AEW star Mariah May thinks Toni Storm will not return
In the same interview, Mariah May spoke about beating Toni Storm for the AEW Women's World Title at All In 2024, claiming to have "humiliated" The Illustrious One. She pointed to Storm's absence from TV since she walked out of Wembley Stadium following her loss, going so far as to imply that her former mentor may be dead.
May also asserted that the former Outcasts member may have been pushed to retirement at All In and was unlikely to return to All Elite Wrestling.
"I don’t think she’s ever going to come back. I think that was her retirement. I don’t think she can speak anymore. She doesn’t have a single thought running through her head at any one time. She just speaks nonsense,” she said.
Mariah May's confidence may be a little premature, as Storm has, in the meantime, voiced her interest in a rematch against The Fighting Princess at the Australian debut of AEW Grand Slam next year.
