Mariah May's former partner teases huge AEW return - "I can’t wait to go back"
AEW Women's World Champion Mariah May has a lot on her plate at the moment, but she could soon get some help from a longtime friend and partner. That is, if she can clean up her act.
Mina Shirakawa dazzled AEW's fanbase when she began appearing for the promotion in the lead-up to this year's Forbidden Door pay-per-view. Mina and Mariah were close during the latter's time in World Wonder Ring Stardom, and the Japanese star was ecstatic to be reunited with her former tag team partner.
Now, things have changed. Shortly after Toni Storm defeated Shirakawa at Forbidden Door, Mariah May revealed her true face and attacked Storm. She then defeated her mentor at All In to win the AEW Women's World Championship, establishing herself as a top heel in All Elite Wrestling.
Mina Shirakawa wants to reunite with Mariah once again, but more than that, she wants the old Mariah May back. Speaking with WrestleZone's Troy Gonzales, she revealed that she disliked her friend's current attitude:
“I was really happy when Mariah became the AEW Women’s World Champion. As a former partner of Mariah’s, I was so proud to see how her hard work in Japan led her to emerging to the top so soon after arriving in AEW. But the sparkling, fungoing Mariah is gone. I believe I am the only one who can bring Mariah back. I want the old Mariah back. I want the two of us to team up again and become the strongest women’s tag team in AEW. I can’t wait to go back to see Mariah," Mina Shirakawa said.
AEW had to ask Mariah May to stop kissing Mina Shirakawa on television
Mariah May and Mina Shirakawa were happy to be reunited earlier this year, and the two showed it with several displays of intimacy on AEW programming. The two shared several kisses on live TV, adding a hint of spice to Shirakawa's storyline with 'Timeless' Toni Storm.
Things got so spicy, in fact, that the promotion asked May to cut it out. In an appearance on Wrestling with Freddie in August, Mariah May revealed that their kisses were not scripted or even pitched:
"It was not pitched. We just did it. Mina and I are extremely close. We’ve always been very close in Stardom. We just did it. The next time around, they were like, 'Hey, can you guys stop kissing?'"
Mina Shirakawa lost her bid for the AEW Women's World Championship at Forbidden Door and returned to Japan shortly after. She seemed reluctant in her last segment with Mariah at Dynamite: Grand Slam and only time will tell if she can accept her friend's villainous new persona.
