Matt Hardy airs frustration with The Hardys' booking in AEW once again

Matt Hardy has yet again expressed his frustrations about how The Hardys were booked in AEW. The former Tag Team Champion explained what issues he and Jeff Hardy faced in the Tony Khan-led company.

Matt recently left AEW after nearly four years with the promotion. The Broken One's brother, Jeff Hardy, is also on the brink of leaving the Tony Khan-led company, as he revealed his deal is close to expiring.

On his Extreme Life podcast, Matt Hardy recently explained how Jeff Hardy's issues initially derailed their tag team's momentum in AEW.

“I feel like one of the issues in AEW — and I said this before on Busted Open earlier today. Like, when we first came in and first getting used we were in a good spot, it was very cool what we were doing. I liked what Tony [Khan] was doing with us, and we were on the path to win the titles. And then Jeff got in trouble; Jeff messed up. And that was all on Jeff, that was not on Tony, that was not on AEW, that was on Jeff. And it just is what it is."

Matt added that he and Jeff were frustrated after the Tony Khan-led creative team didn't book them to win any tag team matches for a long time.

"But just — after Jeff came back, we didn’t win any tag team matches for a year. It’s crazy. We’re The Hardys; we didn’t win a tag team match on TV in a year. And I mean, I brought this point up like, ‘What are we doing? Like we need — just to give us a win. We don’t need to be the champions, we don’t need to be undefeated. But just like, we need a win at some point.’ And it was just very frustrating." [H/T: Inside The Ropes]

Matt Hardy wanted The Hardys to turn heel in AEW

Matt Hardy also revealed the creative ideas he had for The Hardys in AEW. The former Tag Team Champion disclosed he wanted to have a heel run alongside Jeff Hardy in the Tony Khan-led promotion.

On The Extreme Life podcast, Matt said:

"You know, we were up for turning heel. We were up for being, you know, this larger-than-life tag team that almost buys into ‘They’re the greatest tag team of all time.’ And almost like parody the stuff, and do it so big and over the top that I think could even get over as babyfaces. But we didn’t end up doing that." [H/T: Inside The Ropes]

It seems like both Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy are set to have another run outside AEW soon. Only time will tell what's next for The Hardys.
