Mercedes Mone apologizes for teasing 29-year-old performer's AEW debut - "I should have kept my mouth shut"
Mercedes Mone recently teased the AEW debut of a popular performer. However, she now regrets doing that.
Megan Thee Stallion, the performer in question, is one of the most popular rappers in the world. Throughout her career, she has produced several chart-topping hits that have garnered her a loyal fanbase.
Megan also has other interests apart from rapping, particularly professional wrestling. She is a fan of Mercedes Mone. The two women first got in touch at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards and Mone even recently teased the idea of Megan debuting in AEW since the managers of both women were in negotiations for them to work together.
However, following this, WWE made a deal with Megan to use her song "Neva Play" as the official theme song for SmackDown, a move that has raised a lot of eyebrows. In the latest edition of Mone Mag, the CEO mentioned that she should've kept her mouth regarding Megan's AEW debut, hinting that her tease led WWE to partner with the 29-year-old rapper:
“It's true. A few weeks ago in an interview, I made the mistake of teasing the idea (of working with Megan Thee Stallion), which made headlines. More recently, it was announced that Meg would be part of the new Smackdown theme. It could all be a coincidence, of course. But then, they don't call me the blueprint for nothing. In hindsight, I should have kept my mouth shut about it but all you can do is live and learn.”
Willow Nightingale gives her honest thoughts on Mercedes Mone
Willow Nightingale has some history with Mercedes Mone. After she injured Mone in their first bout several months ago, the CEO joined AEW and immediately challenged Nightingale to a match. Mone went on to defeat Nightingale for the TBS Championship.
However, during a recent exclusive interview with Sportskeeda Senior Editor Bill Apter, Willow Nightingale was all praise for her colleague. She even praised her match against Bayley at Takeover: Brooklyn.
"I believe so [Moné is living up to the hype]," Nightingale said. "I think she is great. She is somebody who, whether I like it or not because she is, at the end of the day, competition, she has kinda helped shape the current landscape of women's wrestling. I think she had a match that blew a lot of people's minds. It is probably one of, if not my favorite match of all time versus Bayley at TakeOver: Brooklyn. I watched that match and I think I was just starting out wrestling. My mother's not a wrestling fan. I made her watch it. I said, 'You have to see this!' She was like, 'You know what, it's good. If it's good, it's good.'" [6:22 – 7:12]
It will be interesting to see if Mercedes Mone will end up working with Megan Thee Stallion in the future.
