Mercedes Moné breaks character to praise bitter AEW rival - "I was blown away"
AEW star Mercedes Moné's winning streak has continued in the promotion. Moné has tangled with top names since arriving in Tony Khan's company and has now made a surprising declaration about one of her colleagues.
The CEO has won twelve straight matches since debuting for All Elite Wrestling. After dethroning Willow Nightingale at Double Or Nothing, Moné has now been TBS Champion for 195 days. She has also been the NJPW Strong Women's Champion for 160 days after defeating Stephanie Vaquer at Forbidden Door. She also just retained the TBS Title at Full Gear, defeating Kris Statlander in their first-ever match.
The CEO publishes a weekly digital magazine on her official website, titled Moné Mag Weekly. In Issue 25 of Volume 2, the 32-year-old recalled her 19-minute win over Statlander at Full Gear and broke character. She had immense praise for The Galaxy's Greatest Alien and called her showdown with the latter her "second favorite match" of her career. She was blown away by Statlander's willpower and performance.
"Wow! What an incredible night at AEW Full Gear! I'm still buzzing from the electrifying atmosphere and the unforgettable matches that unfolded, but there’s one moment that has etched itself into my heart and mind—the jaw-dropping showdown between me and Kris Statlander. It might just be my second favorite match of my entire career! Kris Statlander truly impressed me. She embodies strength and determination, and I was blown away by her willpower. She brought everything she had to the ring, pulling out all the stops trying to take me down. Her tenacity was something to behold, and it’s clear that she’s a force to be reckoned with in the AEW women’s division," she wrote.
The CEO also had high regard for Willow Nightingale, who she considers the "heart and soul" of the women's division, but said that Statlander was its "strength." Moné also spoke about the magical moment of winning at Full Gear in front of 10000 people chanting in the audience.
"While I’ve always said that Willow Nightingale is the heart and soul of our division, Kris is undeniably its strength. She pushed me to my limits in a way that made me appreciate her talent even more. The energy in the arena was electric as the bell rang, and I could feel the anticipation build with every second. When the announcement came through, 'And still...' with over 10,000 fans on their feet chanting 'AEW' it was pure magic. That moment felt like a culmination of everything I’ve worked for, and the roar of the crowd was a symphony of support that I’ll never forget," she added.
Moné recently tried to reprimand Kamille, after ordering her to stay backstage during Full Gear as punishment for her previous loss to Statlander. However, The Brickhouse quit before she could be fired, and is now rumored to challenge her former boss for the TBS Championship in the coming weeks.
Mercedes Moné set for big AEW title defense
Mercedes Moné is set to defend her TBS Championship on an upcoming episode of Dynamite. She will face Anna Jay in another first-ever match. This comes as the former Sasha Banks is expected to recruit members to start her own faction.
The Star of The Show vs. The CEO was booked after Jay slapped Moné on a recent episode. They will now battle on December 18 during the Holiday Bash Dynamite from the Entertainment & Sports Arena in Washington, DC.
AEW has also announced a big Continental Classic match for the Holiday Bash Dynamite. In Gold League action, Darby Allin will face Will Ospreay in another first-time ever clash.
