Mercedes Moné (fka Sasha Banks) needs to make a massive change in AEW, says wrestling journalist
A wrestling journalist thinks Mercedes Moné, formerly known as Sasha Banks, might need some character change in AEW. That would be Dave Meltzer.
The CEO has been the center of attraction in AEW since arriving in the company in March 2024. Although currently not being medically cleared to wrestle, she has been actively delivering promos. She will make her in-ring debut at the AEW Double or Nothing 2024 Pay-Per-View against Willow Nightingale for the TBS Championship.
Mercedes' character has been quite different from her WWE gimmick. Additionally, The CEO chants are added to her entrance theme. Her presentation has been very different from what the Jacksonville-based company does. Mone has also not got the chance to prove her worth as she has not yet wrestled in the promotion.
While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, prominent wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer claimed that Mercedes Moné's character needs a change as it does not fit the AEW environment.
"She (Mercedes Mone) has to adjust the character to the promotion. The way she came out and everything like that, it’s that real weird patterned ring entrance that they do in WWE that absolutely does not fit with this crowd. I don’t think The CEO thing works either. It feels totally out of place in that company. It’s not like WWE is bad but it is different and nobody else does it. Sometimes when nobody else does it it’s actually a good thing but this is not that case. She’s doing this thing that doesn’t feel right in an AEW environment," Dave Meltzer said.
What the future has in store for The Boss remains to be seen.
Veteran wrestling journalist Bill Apter thinks the hype for AEW star Mercedes Moné is gone
Mercedes Mone, formerly known as Sasha Banks, had a lot of hype before even debuting in the Jacksonville-based promotion in March 2024.
While speaking on Sportskeeda Wrestling's UnSKripted podcast, legendary wrestling journalist Bill Apter claimed that Mercedes Moné was no longer a headline as she had not done anything significant since arriving in the Tony Khan-led company.
"So ya, they need a, they need a franchise guy or girl. It was going to Sasha Banks, Mercedes Mone. It was gonna be her. But they have dragged this out so long (...) Double or Nothing, that buzz has gone down," Bill Apter said.
It remains to be seen if Mercedes manages to capture the TBS Championship at the AEW Double or Nothing 2024 Pay-Per-View in her in-ring debut match.
