Mercedes Mone (fka Sasha Banks) savagely roasts WWE while defending AEW
Mercedes Mone seemed to take a shot at WWE after a fan attempted to troll AEW and its stars online. Tony Khan's company has often been criticized for hiring ex-WWE stars and packing its roster. While AEW has multiple former WWE stars, the latter company has also hired many former stars from the rival promotion.
The CEO is a double champion as she holds the TBS and NJPW Strong Women's Championship currently. The star debuted in AEW as a babyface but is garnering a lot of heat as of late. She is slated to face Britt Baker for the TBS Championship at this year's All In Pay-Per-View at Wembley Stadium.
Before joining the Jacksonville-based promotion in March 2024, Mercedes Mone worked in WWE for almost a decade. She became a household name and captured multiple championships throughout her stint in the Stamford-based promotion. Unfortunately, she and Naomi exited the company due to creative differences in May 2022.
A fan recently called AEW trash on social media and claimed the Jacksonville-based promotion is filled with former WWE fans. Mercedes then responded by asking what the rival company was filled with, implying that the global sports entertainment juggernaut also hires stars from the Tony Khan-led promotion.
Mercedes Mone revealed WWE made it difficult for her to film The Mandalorian
Mercedes has spread her wings over time and is now not just a wrestling star. The CEO acted in a popular series, The Mandalorian, while she was in WWE.
While speaking with the HOT 97 podcast, the TBS Champion claimed WWE scheduled her for house shows during her filming dates, thus making it hard for her to pursue her acting interests. She was appreciative, however, of Tony Khan and his efforts in ensuring she could perform for AEW, and at the same time, fulfill her creative passions without it being a hindrance to her wrestling career.
“WWE tried so hard to not make me do The Mandalorian. And put me on house shows when I was supposed to film. It was pulling teeth just to get on that show. Here at AEW, I have all the time in the world to go do acting and more. And Tony Khan will pick me up on the private jet, take me to the shows, and back to the other show to film,” she said.
It will be interesting to see if Mercedes Mone returns to WWE in the future.
