Mercedes Moné (fka Sasha Banks) subtly hints at blockbuster arrivals in AEW
Mercedes Mone (fka Sasha Banks) has subtly teased a couple of blockbuster arrivals in AEW. The stars in question are Natalya and TJ Wilson.
The CEO sent shockwaves through the wrestling world when she made her All Elite Wrestling debut on Dynamite: Big Business earlier this year. The arrival of a star of Mone's level in AEW has led many to speculate on other renowned wrestlers joining her in the promotion due to their status as free agents, especially former WWE Women's World Champion Becky Lynch, whose contract with the global wrestling giant reportedly expired some time ago.
During an interview with Maggie and Perloff, Mercedes Mone was asked about the prospect of The Man signing with All Elite Wrestling. The reigning TBS Champion responded by stating that she wanted other talent who could be in the free agent market to join the Jacksonville-based company. She also emphasized that she encouraged the best in-ring performers in the world to come and work alongside their All Elite peers in AEW.
"I would choose other rumored girls that I’ve heard that might be on the free agent list. So I think there’s a lot, by the way, out there. So I would say the more, the merrier, as long as you’re good. As long as you’re one of the best wrestlers in the world. Come over here because this is where the best wrestle."
Mone further voiced her hope that a certain female wrestler, as well as her husband, would be signed by the Tony Khan-led promotion. She refused to identify the talent in question in order to ensure that AEW's competitors were not spurred by her remarks to sign them even quicker.
"I have heard little rumors of a certain girl that I really, really love. I don’t want to name names because if I say their name, then you know the other competition might just want to get them that much quicker. So, if we have a chance to get her, I would absolutely love her and her husband to be here. But that’s just that… Just go on X, Twitter, or Instagram. I’m sure the fans will figure it out." Mone's hints suggest the possibility that she was referring to WWE veteran Natalya and her husband, TJ Wilson. Recent reports indicate that The Queen of Harts has not yet signed a new deal with the Triple H-led company, although her contract with the promotion has supposedly not expired yet. On the other hand, Wilson, who serves as a producer in WWE, reportedly does not have a contract with the Stamford-based promotion.
It remains to be seen whether or not Natalya and TJ Wilson decide on signing with AEW.
Mercedes Mone will be in action at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2024
Mercedes Mone won the TBS Championship by defeating Willow Nightingale at Double or Nothing 2024. She defended the title against Skye Blue on Dynamite following the pay-per-view. After the match, The Boss would be confronted by an old rival in NJPW Strong Women's Champion Stephanie Vaquer.
The two women had wrestled a year prior on NJPW Resurgence, with Mone coming out on top. They will clash once again in a title-for-title match at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2024 on June 30.
It remains to be seen whether Mercedes Mone will defeat La Primera and become a double champion in the UBS Arena this Sunday.
