Mercedes Mone recalls Triple H's promise: "It was so important to me"

Mercedes Mone previously worked for WWE. During this time, Triple H made a promise to her which she still remembers.

The CEO was part of many memorable moments during her tenure in World Wrestling Entertainment. She played a huge part in the women's revolution in the Stamford-based company and was also part of the first all-women pay-per-view in the company's history, WWE Evolution.

Seeing the rise of the women's division in WWE, the company finally announced the introduction of the Women's Tag Team Championship in 2019. The first team to win these titles were Mercedes Mone and Bayley.

During a recent episode of her Mone Mag Newsletter, Mone recalled how she and Bayley had really pushed for a tag title for the women's division and stressed its importance, or the lack of it at the time, in the Stamford-based promotion.

"When I think back to the most memorable tag team matches I've fought in, two matches come to mind. The first is a multi-person tag. Me, Natalia, and Bayley vs The Riot Squad at WWE Evolution. The match was so important to me. Bayley and I were fighting so hard to make Tag Team Titles. I remember Hunter coming up to me at Evolution and telling me you know, we are going to get these tag team titles one day. We are going to work for it," she stated.

Mercedes Mone added that Triple H knew how important this issue was for her and had come to her and Bayley after Evolution and promised that there would be a tag championship for the women's division in the near future. And sure enough, Vince McMahon announced the new titles later that year in December.

"It was so important to me, I just wanted to show him and the audience that tag team wrestling was important. I wanted them to see that it mattered, so girls had something to fight for instead of just random Monday Night RAW or SmackDown matches. This match really opened the eyes of the WWE. We wanted tag team titles to be brought into existence. Later that year, I believe in December, Vince McMahon announced that we would get a women’s tag team title, which was so cool," she added. Mercedes Mone named her best opponents in WWE and AEW

Mercedes Mone has competed against some of the best female athletes in WWE during her time with the company. She has had history-making matches with the likes of Charlotte Flair, Bayley, and Becky Lynch.

During a recent appearance on First We Feast's Truth or Dab: Rapid Fire round, Mercedes named Bayley, Charlotte Flair, Willow Nightingale, and Bianca Belair as her best opponents.

"That's hard for me because I've wrestled some of the best in the world. Number one I think is easily... Bayley. We've made so many historic moments and matches together. Number two might have to be Charlotte Flair. She has given me my greatest matches, my worst matches, all in between. Three, I might have to go with Willow Nightingale. Last but not least, I might have to choose Bianca because of our history-making moment at WrestleMania 37, when we main evented something I'm going to remember the rest of my life," Mercedes Moné said.
