Mercedes Mone reveals real-life family betrayal ahead of AEW Full Gear
Mercedes Mone is set to defend her TBS Championship at AEW Full Gear 2024. To The CEO's seeming disappointment, however, a member of her own family seems to be a fan of her opponent for said title bout.
Mone has had quite a dominant run with the TBS Title, which she won after beating Willow Nightingale at Double or Nothing earlier this year. However, her reign appears to be in jeopardy as a refocused Kris Statlander is resolved to reclaim the belt she lost at Full Gear 2023 despite not being beaten for it.
Hostilities have escalated between the challenger and the contender en route to the pay-per-view this Saturday. Unfortunately, The Boss has been unable to get the upper hand on Statlander of late, as the latter laid her out this week on AEW Dynamite again.
On a recent edition of her Mone Mag newsletter, Mercedes Mone revealed that her brother Joshua was a fan of Kris Statlander. She wrote about him bringing up the event of the 29-year-old star putting Mone and her associate Kamille through a wall earlier this month.
"The countdown to Full Gear is here, and the excitement is off the charts! With personal rivalries reaching a boiling point, this pay-per-view is set to make history. My brother Joshua, a die-hard Kris Statlander fan, has been buzzing all week. He's been parading around in his exclusive AEW shirt and bringing up the time Kris threw me into a wall—yes, we all remember, Josh. But come Saturday, that's all going to change," Mone wrote.
Mone further expressed her motivations for defeating Statlander at Full Gear.
"I'm ready to settle the score, silence Kris, and maybe even serve my brother a little slice of humble pie. I can already hear his Sunday morning phone call, 'Wait, what just happened?!'" [H/T Wrestling Inc]
Who else does AEW star Mercedes Mone's brother want her to work with?
Mercedes Mone's brother Joshua also recently voiced the desire to see the Strong Women's Champion wrestle a former WWE peer and rival, who is now signed with AEW as well. The talent in question is none other than Saraya, whose in-ring career came to a temporary halt back in 2017 after sustaining a neck injury during a multi-person match also involving the former Sasha Banks.
On an edition of Mone Mag last week, Mone seemingly shared her own interest in making a match with The Anti-Diva happen in the future.
"Joshua's face lit up as we walked by the AEW trucks, but when he saw Saraya on one of the trucks, he couldn’t contain himself, constantly asking, 'Mercedes, when are you going to wrestle Saraya?' That’s his dream match for me, and I can’t wait to make it happen someday."
However, before she can face Saraya, Mercedes Mone must defend her title against Kris Statlander at AEW Full Gear 2024.
