Mercedes Mone's recent clash termed the "best women's match ever" in the USA by noted wrestling journalist
A prominent wrestling journalist has deemed AEW TBS Champion Mercedes Mone's recent match as the best women's bout ever in the United States. The CEO recently competed outside of the Tony Khan-led promotion.
Mercedes Mone has been the AEW TBS Champion and the NJPW Strong Women's Champion for months now. The CEO recently competed at New Japan Pro-Wrestling Strong Style Evolved 2024, where she defended her Strong Women's Title against Hazuki. Wrestling Observer's Dave Meltzer heavily praised the match.
Mone and Hazuki tore the house down in an incredible match that went on for over 26 minutes. In the end, the former Sasha Banks managed to retain her NJPW Strong Women's Championship.
On the Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer recently claimed that Mone vs. Hazuki might have been the best women's match ever in the United States. Meltzer also mentioned Charlotte Flair vs. Rhea Ripley and Thunder Rosa vs. Britt Baker while discussing the finest women's bouts held in America.
"That may have been the best women’s match ever in the United States. I’ve been racking my brains after watching it. The [other] ones that hit my brain are the Charlotte Flair vs. Rhea Ripley match at WrestleMania [39] and the other would be Thunder Rosa vs. Britt Baker. But this match was really well wrestled, they both really laid out a great match, the crowd was really into it," Meltzer said. [H/T: WrestleTalk]
Mercedes Mone is set for a huge double title match
After Mercedes Mone successfully defended her NJPW Strong Women's Championship against Hazuki at Strong Style Evolved, she was confronted by Mina Shirakawa.
Mina challenged Mone for the upcoming Wrestle Dynasty pay-per-view on January 5, 2025. A double title match was later confirmed for the show, with both the NJPW Strong Women's Title and the RevPro British Women's Championship up for grabs.
It will be interesting to see whether The CEO manages to capture another title at Wrestle Dynasty.
