Mercedes Moné says she might never work with a 29-year-old performer - "I just think we can’t do anything together!"
Mercedes Moné's stints with AEW and WWE have included storylines with several top stars. The former Sasha Banks worked with names such as Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch, plus celebrities like her cousin Snoop Dogg, in the Stamford-based promotion. Since leaving WWE, she's worked with Britt Baker and Kairi Sane, among others. Meanwhile, the 32-year-old recently revealed why she might not work with a certain mainstream star in the future.
The CEO spent time with Megan Thee Stallion earlier this year. The Grammy-winning rapper is a big fan of Moné and wrestling in general, which led to their managers recently working on a deal for the two to team up in AEW. The AEW TBS Champion publicly discussed the potential pairing last month, but then WWE announced the 29-year-old's Neva Play single as the new SmackDown theme, which reportedly caught Moné and her team off-guard.
Moné appeared on The Breakfast Club this week and was asked if she and Megan would collaborate in the coming days. The NJPW Strong Women's Champion was also asked about AEW's plans if the two stars had joined forces in the Jacksonville-based promotion.
"Not right now. Unfortunately, no! [It was to be] something fun, either a tag team match, a wrestling match, something. [She would] either wrestle with me or wrestle against me, but there were talks of doing something fun with her, but now she’s doing the opening theme song for SmackDown, which is awesome," Mercedes Moné said.
Moné was then asked to elaborate on why she and the 29-year-old entertainer may not work together. She mentioned Megan's latest association with WWE as the major reason.
"Just brand-wise, she did a song with WWE, and I’m with AEW, so I just think we can’t do anything together," she added. [H/T: Fightful]
Moné has yearned to work with Stallion in the past. The recent reports noted that there was talk of the two linking up for something in 2021 while she was still with WWE.
Mercedes Moné is set to return to popular non-AEW series
Mercedes Moné has been busy doing media interactions to promote the 2024 AEW Grand Slam. The current TBS Champion appeared on several digital shows and participated in numerous interviews while making the rounds in New York City on Tuesday.
The CEO is set to appear on an upcoming episode of First We Feast's wildly popular Hot Ones series on YouTube. The show is hosted by Sean Evans. The new episodes are released every Thursday at 11 a.m. ET.
Mercedes Moné made her debut on the Hot Ones in January 2018 as part of Season Five. She returned in September 2021 for the Paqui One Chip Challenge.
