Mercedes Mone says she won't show recent AEW angle to her family; terms it "tough to watch"
Mercedes Mone recently discussed a viral AEW angle that she feels was "tough to watch" due to the violence involved. The TBS Champion was referring to Jon Moxley suffocating Bryan Danielson with a plastic bag at All Out 2024 last week.
AEW pushed boundaries and left the crowd stunned by the level of violence at the recent pay-per-view, especially during the main event between Swerve Strickland and Hangman Page. Another moment that grabbed fans' attention was when Moxley wrapped Danielson's head in a plastic bag and suffocated him. The broadcasters, too, fell short of words to describe how far Mox had taken things.
Now, in the latest edition of her Mone Mag, Mercedes Mone wrote about how it was "tough to watch" the brutality Jon Moxley unleashed on The American Dragon. She added that while she wouldn't let her brother watch this level of violence, she was aware that extreme wrestling had an audience too that needed to be served.
"All Out was extremely violent, and honestly, Daniel Bryan's stuff was tough to watch. I have mixed emotions. When done right, that kind of stuff can tear a roof off like Daniel's did. However, I wouldn't want my brother Joshua to watch stuff like that, or kids, for that matter. Let's face it, wrestling is multi-generational. When I do signings, I greet so many parents and their children. Growing up, I didn't have a father, so it especially warms my heart to meet families and hear how much their wrestling viewing experiences and memories mean to them. Then again, there is an audience that loves the extreme, and you want to cater to them, too," wrote Mercedes Mone.
Mercedes Mone was also in action at AEW All Out 2024
Mere days after she defended her TBS Women's Championship against Britt Baker at All In 2024, Mercedes Mone again put her title on the line at All Out. This time, The Boss took on a spirited Hikaru Shida in front of a rabid Chicago crowd.
Despite putting in her best efforts, Shida ultimately failed to win as Mone found a way to retain her title at the pay-per-view. The former WWE star's win was even more impressive, considering her ally, Kamille, was banned from the ringside.
Mone's absence was felt on this week's AEW Dynamite and it remains to be seen who steps up next to challenge her for the TBS Championship.
